Republican Debbie Lesko won the House special election in Arizona Tuesday night, holding off a closer-than-expected Democratic challenge in a district that President Donald Trump won by 21 points in 2016.
Lesko had 53 percent of the vote when The Associated Press called the race an hour after the polls closed, with over 155,000 early votes tallied. Democrat Hiral Tipirneni had 47 percent of the vote.
But Leskos single-digit margin is the latest evidence that Republicans face a punishing midterm environment, even in Trump-friendly territory. Leskos victory comes on the heels of losses for Republicans in southwestern Pennsylvania, where Democratic Rep. Conor Lamb beat Republican Rick Saccone in a district that backed Trump by nearly 20 points in 2016, and in Alabama, where Democrat Doug Jones defeated Republican Roy Moore last year. In many other special elections that Democrats have lost, the vote has shifted sharply in their direction compared to the 2016 presidential results.

How much did the D’s spend?
Exactly. I'm sick and tired of the relentless cloud of negativity that overshadows what should otherwise be a good day for Republicans.
ENOUGH ALREADY, Deep State media!
Monday: Referendum on Trump!!!
Wednesday: What election?
About a quarter of what the Republicans spent.
I have never heard details on how supposedly sensible state voters in Arizona,NV and so on would talk gibberish and vote democrat.
Someone on FR recently said: a lot of dimwits from California can’t stand the mess they made in their own nest there and are now emigrating to AZ and NV.
Does anyone know if it is that, or many thousands of illegals voting of multiple black voting as in urban areas?
Why aren’t AZ and NV GOP all the time?
A lot of these type of articles say the GOP will have a tough 2018
election.
What all of them fail to mention is the special elections are because
these GOP House members had scandals and were forced to resign.
GOP voters are more prone to sit out elections if scandals are involved
than RATs.
We will be just fine in the 2018 elections.
The failure of the Democrats was not because of lack of money or appearances by celebrities. Enough Republicans could be awakened and persuaded to crawl over broken glass to get to the polls to make the difference.
Because every bit of the Democrat base got turned out.
It is the first time Dems rannanyone of substance and they spent millions of dollars. The Press is part of the Democrat party, there is no separation anymore.
Amazing. The real deal is 6 months away and the MSM is already predicting a wave because she won by ‘less than’ 10 points. There’s never a ‘we’ll see’ in their vocabulary. Betting money might shut them up.
There are Democrats and they are motivated by hate. but there was no way they were ever going to take this seat. This was the same scenario in 2010 for the GOP but the press never mentioned it on a daily basis in every special election.
I'm dead serious.
The Republican brand has been severely damaged by Paul, Mitch and the boys. Particularly on the failure to repeal Obamacare.
“The Republican win in Arizona was another tough night for the GOP”
Washington Post· 40m ago
Absolutely.
“Exactly. I’m sick and tired of the relentless cloud of negativity that overshadows what should otherwise be a good day for Republicans.”
Yes, and this is WND. Why could the headline have not been “Republican Victory in Arizona Race?” WND seems sad that the RATs lost.
NV= Lib Vegas. That and Reno is quickly moving in the wrong (by my standards) direction. But we keep plugging away. Can’t speak for AZ but probably Phoenix is lib leaning these days. NM is gone. Strange days ahead.
Haven’t heard a thing on the news this morning. Even Faux Snooze!
Well, I really didn’t want to link to the actual piece which was in ‘politico’ so.............
I has to search this out this morning. The (deep-state) man’s trying to keep us down.
