“I am also happy that the suspected shooter is dead.” With those 10 words, in response to Friday’s apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre sent Canada’s propriety police into one of its trademarked tizzies. “Leaders don’t celebrate death,” Harden said of Poilievre’s remark. “We work for community safety.” An “insane thing to say,” was left-wing commentator David Moscrop’s reaction. Former Alberta MLA Thomas Lukazkuk called it “irrational” — “revenge over due process.” “While others appeal for calm, Poilievre rejoices in retribution,” Globe and Mail columnist Andrew Coyne observed on X. [Poilievre] says things...

CAPE BRETON ISLAND, Canada —The first sign of what Rob Calabrese would come to think of as America’s unmooring began last year, just after Donald Trump won his first presidential primary and Calabrese published a $28 website that he’d designed in 30 minutes. “Hi Americans!” it began, and what followed was a sales pitch for an island where Muslims could “roam freely,” and where the only walls were those “holding up the roofs” of “extremely affordable houses.”

The House has left Washington for its July Fourth recess, but Democrats have no intention of relenting in their push for tougher gun laws.

Six House Democrats, led by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D’OH), have filed a bill aimed at controlling gasoline prices. Styled the “Gas Price Spike Act”, H.R. 3784 would establish a “Reasonable Profits Board” which would have the power to confiscate 100% of oil company profits above a level that they deem to be “reasonable”. I know: “You had me at ‘Kucinich’.” Kucinich is either a naive buffoon, a craven panderer to his electorate, or a throwback to Soviet-style central planning. (Not that those descriptions are mutually exclusive.) That he could find five other elected nitwits (Reps. Woolsey[1], Langevin, Conyers, Fudge and...

One Arizona Democrat is so frustrated with his state's conservative politics that he's pushing a novel solution: secession. Paul Eckerstrom, the former Democratic party chairman of Pima County, has formed a political committee, Start Our State, to look into making Pima the 51st U.S. state. Start Our State says its mission is "to establish a new state in Southern Arizona free of the un-American, unconstitutional machinations of the Arizona legislature and to restore our region's credibility as a place welcoming to others, open to commerce, and friendly to its neighbors." Eckerstrom told MSNBC yesterday that he and others in his...

Federal investigators say an accelerant was poured around the exterior of Gov. Sarah Palin's home church before it was heavily damaged by a fire.

Byron York has some of Markos' modest little speech the other day, but I've found the rest that he decided not to use: "Yeah, they can take me down, Ma, but I'll still be there. I'm a part of something bigger. I'll be all aroun' in the dark. Stumbling around in the dark. I'll be ever'where. Ever'where you look. Whenever there's a brutally murdered American in Iraq to scorn, I'll be there. Wherever there's a few loons milling around with misspelled protes' signs saying 'Bush Lied! People Died!' and pictures of Che, and paper-mache puppets of Uncle Sam and Bushitlercheney...

Al Franken must be having a hard time these days. The liberal media have been parading him on all the shows -- to claim that the liberal media is not liberal at all, but really a right wing propaganda machine. These liberal media outlets (along with a silly lawsuit from Fox News), have helped to propel Al Franken's new book into the bestseller lists. But it would only be fitting that when appearing on a liberal network Franken would complain he is being censored. Decent folks were aghast at such chutzpah on CNN's Crossfire Monday, when Franken subbed for...
