A member of the LGBTQ+ advocacy group Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence who has previously participated in Drag Queen Story Hour was arrested after witnesses alleged he masturbated in public for an hour. Clinton Monroe Ellis-Gilmore, 53, is a member of the group, which created a stir after it was disinvited - and then re-invited - to the Los Angeles Dodgers' Pride Night over protests from conservatives and Catholics. Ellis-Gilmore was arrested at Table Bluff County Park in Loleta, California, on August 12 after police had received reports of a man 'exposing himself in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle.'...

I can’t wait to go a week or a month or – who could imagine? – a year without writing a single article on LGBTQ+ activism. I imagine you can’t wait to go a week or month or year without reading another article on the subject either. But here we are in 2023 in the midst of a cultural implosion, and common sense, decency, the fear of God, and a deep love for people cause me to cry out. Again.

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he hoped his team would have seven All-Stars named to the Midsummer Classic. That didn’t turn out to be the case, at least for now, as Freddie Freeman, Julio Urías and Will Smith were left off the team. After Mookie Betts and Trea Turner were named National League starters at their respective positions, pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin were announced Sunday as All-Stars to round out the roster. Roberts broke the news to his two pitchers before Sunday’s 11-9 win over the Cubs. “I think that for me, one of the...

From cash-less concessions to advance-purchase of parking, the experience at Dodger Stadium will be decidedly different under guidelines announced by the team today as it prepares to welcome back fans during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thanks to revised state guidelines, fans will be permitted to attend outdoor sporting events in California beginning April 1, just in time for baseball season. The Dodger home opener is scheduled for April 9. Los Angeles County is currently in the Red tier of the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, which sets rules for businesses and activities during the pandemic. In the red tier, Dodger...

In the latest TV ratings, Fox’s coverage of the World Series opener between the Dodgers and Rays averaged 7.2 million total viewers and a Tuesday-topping 1.8 demo rating — though down sharply from the preliminary numbers (11.6 mil/2.9) for last year’s Nationals/Astros Game 1. Check back later for the final tally! NBC | The Voice (7.5 mil/1.0) was down a tick from Monday’s premiere, but teed up Transplant for Stateside highs of 4.3 mil/0.6. ABC | The Bachelorette (4.1 mil.1.1) slipped about 20 percent from last week. Leading out of that, a Supermarket Sweeeeeeep! encore did 1.8 mil and a...

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to ask the commissioner of baseball to award the Dodgers the 2017 and 2018 World Series titles after Major League Baseball punished the Houston Astros for cheating and continues to investigate the Boston Red Sox for possible misconduct. The resolution, co-sponsored by Councilmen Gil Cedillo and Paul Koretz, originated after Commissioner Rob Manfred released a nine-page report on Jan. 13 detailing how the Astros used technology in violation of baseball rules to steal opposing teams’ pitching signs during the 2017 season. Both councilmen said the resolution is symbolic and represents a larger...

The wild thing about this particular Super Bowl matchup, though, is that the phenomenon of teams from the same cities facing off in two consecutive title games is very rare. By virtue of having Red Sox-Dodgers and Patriots-Rams both taking place in the 2018 (or 2018-2019 season), it marks the first time since Super Bowl III in 1969 that this has happened: Super Bowl III: Jets-Colts in January 1969, and then in October 1969 Mets-Orioles. Different seasons. Same calendar year.

After a small medical holdup involving one of the prospects coming back, the Dodgers have acquired All-Star shortstop Manny Machado from the Orioles. Outfielder Yusniel Diaz is the key piece headed back to Baltimore in the deal. They’ll also receive minor-league right-handers Dean Kremer and Zach Pop, along with infielders Rylan Bannon and Breyvic Valera. The Dodgers will take on the entirety of Machado’s remaining 2018 salary, which checks in at about $6.3MM. Since starting out the year with an 8-20 record, it’s been all but certain that the Orioles would deal the impending free agent in exchange for more...

PHILADELPHIA -- Dodgers Hall of Fame former manager Tom Lasorda suffered a mild heart attack in New York on Monday and had a stent inserted for one blocked artery, the team confirmed Tuesday. "The doctors confirmed I do bleed Dodger Blue," Lasorda joked. "I'm looking forward to being back at the stadium to cheer on the Dodgers." Lasorda was in New York representing the Dodgers at the First-Year Player Draft when he took ill Monday night and was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. The 84-year-old is resting comfortably and in stable condition and could be released as early as Wednesday....

Vin Scully, the great broadcaster for the Los Angeles Dodgers, turns 80 years old today. He began his career with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950. When the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958, Scully moved with them. 8 seasons in Brooklyn, 50 seasons in LA. 58 seasons and counting. Wow. Scully's longevity is remarkable, but even more remarkable is his unique style. It transcends just sportscasting. It is artistic broadcasting at its best. You don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate him. You can read about his style in this fine Salon article There are more articles...

When people talk about baseball played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, most point to May 7, 1959, as a highlight. That was the night 93,103 fans honored Roy Campanella by lighting matches and cigarette lighters as Pee Wee Reese pushed him in his wheelchair toward home plate in the fifth inning. "Roy was so proud of that," said his former teammate, Don Newcombe, who was in Japan that night and missed the exhibition game between the Dodgers and New York Yankees. "He talked about it. "He was proud of it. He was my roommate. He was my buddy....

When you greatly admire a famous person, someone once said, avoid meeting him. Otherwise, prepare yourself for disappointment. Whoever said that never met Sandy Koufax, the great former pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the seventh grade, at age 12, I entered a poetry contest held at my Los Angeles junior high school. I wrote about my favorite player: Koufax is on the mound, The game has just begun. He gets a sign from the catcher And, zoom, strike one. Not exactly Robert Frost, so I'll spare you the rest of the poem. But after winning, I immediately sent...

LOS ANGELES -- It's a real shame the Dodgers have no more games scheduled with the Padres this year, because after finding all sorts of ways to lose to San Diego while dropping 13 of the first 17 games between the two teams, it looks like they've finally found a way to win. The Dodgers hit seven home runs Monday night and needed every one, overcoming four-run deficits twice in a remarkable 11-10 victory in 10 innings that put them back into first place by one-half game and had to be seen to be believed. "This will be a game,"...

LOS ANGELES -- Spending nearly $25,000 for baseball tickets seemed like a worthy investment to Michael Mahan, considering the 700th home run ball crushed by Barry Bonds will likely fetch a much higher price. But it appears Bonds will reach that historic milestone in the coming days so Mahan, a lifelong Los Angeles Dodger fan, has been selling most of those tickets in the right-field pavilion at Dodger Stadium. Mahan, 28, decided six months ago to purchase every seat in the Bonds-friendly section of Dodger Stadium for two of the last three games against the San Francisco Giants in October....

It happened again not long before their season ended Sunday: I turned the radio dial to my beloved Los Angeles Dodgers — and couldn't tell which team was up. In this era of corporate baseball, high-priced players come and go too quickly for me to remember their names. Like too much of the world, baseball has lost its personal touch. For fans, it's sad.
