Kidney stones are a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. While genetics and various other factors can contribute to kidney stones, dietary components play a significant role in their formation. Previous research has isolated specific dietary culprits such as high oxalate or calcium intake. However, understanding of the effects of specific dietary components on stone formation remains limited. In this study, researchers used male CD-1 mice to explore the potential correlation between dietary intake and KS. Initially, the size of urinary sediment particles was analyzed in mice that were administered with cholesterol and fruit tannins by gavage. The...

Experienced a kidney stone 25 years ago. Doctor at that time went in invasively to get it and remove Three nights ago, I was struck with another kidney stone attack. Lasted about 2 hours in the middle of the night. 24 hours later. Another one. Could feel the pain and the stone moving farther south. Another one early this morning, still painful but I believe stone is making progress. Refuse to go to any clinic or hospital, what do my wise freeper friends suggest to speed up the process and alleviate the pain.

Kidney stones can cause not only excruciating pain but also are associated with chronic kidney disease, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. If you've experienced a kidney stone once, you have a 30% chance of having another kidney stone within five years. Changes in diet are often prescribed to prevent recurrent symptomatic kidney stones. However, little research is available regarding dietary changes for those who have one incident of kidney stone formation versus those who have recurrent incidents. Researchers designed a prospective study to investigate the impact of dietary changes. Their findings show that enriching diets with foods high in calcium and...

Vitamin C is a key ingredient for immune cell function. Credit: La Jolla Institute for Immunology ================================================================================= Harnessing the combined power of Vitamin C and TET proteins may give scientists a leg up in treating autoimmune diseases. You can’t make a banana split without bananas. And you can’t generate stable regulatory T cells without Vitamin C or enzymes called TET proteins, it appears. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) help control inflammation and autoimmunity in the body. Tregs are so important, in fact, that scientists are working to generate stable induced Tregs (iTregs) in vitro for use as treatments for autoimmune diseases...

In the frantic dash to discover an effective treatment for the novel coronavirus, Dr. Mehmet Oz reveals that one possible thing that can help is vitamin C. Chinese medical teams are now adding vitamin C to their list of potential therapies in several clinical trials. ZhiYong Peng, MD, of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, is conducting a stage 2 clinical trial to test the effectiveness of vitamin C infusions for the treatment of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) associated with the COVID-19 virus, according to MedicineNet. Their trial data reveals that if you...

What I Learned Passing a Kidney Stone—Old School Style!Passing a kidney stone is a learning experience? EVERYTHING is a learning experience! This is the third time for me—label me a slow learner. The first one I attribute to using a Vitamin C product in excess many years ago. The second one, frankly, I don’t remember the cause. And now this one. You’d think with the amount of pain these tiny (in my case) rocks cause, I’d be done. Hopefully I will be now! I’m going to tell you MY experience here, and MY choice. If you have a kidney stone,...

Life will be great again when I pass this damn thing. Right now, it's giving me a break. Started this past late Friday morning while driving. Ever since then, it's been off and on pain on a level of 7 out of 10. Early this morning was an ordeal as the pain started just after midnight and lasted until about 3:30am. I had to take the day off work. Been drinking boatloads of water since Friday. Someone said drink fresh lemonade or lemon juice. Thoughts? BTW, this is my 3rd bout with these things so not my first rodeo. First...

Back with a vengeanceAthens, Ga. – Researchers at the University of Georgia and Yale University have discovered a compound with the potential to be more effective than existing agents in treating the very painful blisters known as shingles—a condition that affects up to 30 percent of Americans, mostly elderly, and for which no specific treatment exists. Most adults remember the fever, itchy blisters and possibly tiny scars they experienced as children when they had chickenpox, which is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, or VZV.Unfortunately, that memory can come back—with a vengeance—when they are older. The VZV virus from childhood chickenpox...

When one thinks of the warming climate, the phrases that pop into mind probably aren't "nausea and vomiting," "sharp, stabbing pain," and "blood in your urine." Yet these awful symptoms could become more prolific in the coming decades, as hotter weather appears to be linked with the risk of growing a kidney stone. This disheartening prognosis comes from doctors at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and elsewhere who've completed a seven-year-long study of 60,433 patients in several major U.S. cities. When the temperature goes up, there's a subsequent spike in the number of people visiting hospitals for stone issues, they...

US parents want answers after China milk scare By DEANNA MARTIN The Associated Press Friday, January 2, 2009; 1:58 PM -- Beth Flanders was on her way to China to adopt her 17-month-old daughter in September when she received a warning from her adoption agency: An industrial chemical that can cause kidney stones had been found in Chinese baby formula, and parents should not feed it to their new children. Flanders' daughter had no symptoms. But in November, an ultrasound revealed two kidney stones, which are unusual in children. Now the Los Angeles-area nurse wonders if melamine is to blame.

(July 15, 2008) — Global warming is likely to increase the proportion of the population affected by kidney stones by expanding the higher-risk region known as the "kidney-stone belt" into neighboring states, researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center and UT Dallas have found. Dehydration is one of the risk factors linked to kidney-stone disease, and the paper suggests global warming will exacerbate this effect. The researchers predict that by 2050, higher temperatures will cause an additional 1.6 million to 2.2 million kidney-stone cases, representing up to a 30 percent growth in some areas.

Rising global temperatures could lead to an increase in kidney stones, according to research presented at the 103rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA). Dehydration has been linked to stone disease, particularly in warmer climates, and global warming will exacerbate this effect. As a result, the prevalence of stone disease may increase, along with the costs of treating the condition. Using published data to determine the temperature-dependence of stone disease, researchers applied predictions of temperature increase to determine the impact of global warming on the incidence and cost of stone disease in the United States. The Intergovernmental...

WASHINGTON, April 9 — The use of shock waves to pulverize kidney stones into sand-like material significantly increases the risk for diabetes and high blood pressure later in life, according to the longest follow-up study of the popular therapy. In the study, which is to be published on Monday from the Mayo Clinic, patients who underwent the pulverizing procedure, known as lithotripsy, developed diabetes at almost four times the rate of those whose kidney stones were treated by other methods. The lithotripsy group also developed high blood pressure about 50 percent more often than a group treated by other methods,...

The term Nanobacteria is short for its scientific genus & species name Nanobacterium sanguineum, a Latin scientific term that means blood nanobacteria. Nanobacteria are nano-sized in that they are from 20-200 nanometers in size and are the smallest known self-replicating bacteria (a nanometer is 1 billionth of a meter and is approximately the width of ten hydrogen atoms side-to-side) Nanobacterium sanguineum is recognized as an emerging infectious disease. Nanobacteria have been shown to cause the calcification in coronary artery disease and vascular disease atherosclerotic plaque.
