Kathleen Kennedy Townsend Washington D.C., Jul 14, 2009 / 05:54 am (CNA).- Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend’s recent Newsweek editorial claiming President Barack Obama represents U.S. Catholics better than Pope Benedict XVI has been attacked by one Catholic critic as “bogus and embarrassing.”Townsend, the eldest child of Robert F. Kennedy, in a July 9 Newsweek column claimed that the Catholic hierarchy ignores women’s equality and “gays’ cry for justice” because they cannot admit they are wrong. She endorsed dissent from Pope Paul VI’s 1968 encyclical “Humanae Vitae,” which upheld traditional Christian teaching on the immorality of contraception. She...

Newsweek took their criticism of Pope Benedict XVI to the next level on Thursday- not only did guest columnist Kathleen Kennedy-Townsend affirm that the pontiff could learn from President Obama (something Newsweek and their partners at the Washington Post agreed upon back in April), but also blasted the Bishop of Rome and the Catholic hierarchy for their supposed “disdain” towards women and homosexuals. The former lieutenant governor of Maryland began her column, titled "Without a Doubt: Why Barack Obama represents American Catholics better than the pope does," with the context of the pope’s upcoming meeting with the American president,...

Tomorrow Pope Benedict XVI and President Barack Obama meet for the first time, an affair much anticipated and in some circles frowned upon by American Catholics in the wake of Obama's controversial Notre Dame commencement speech in May. Conservatives in the church denounced Obama's appearance as a nod by the premier Catholic university to a conciliatory politics that heralds the start of a slippery moral slope. In truth, though, Obama's pragmatic approach to divisive policy (his notion that we should acknowledge the good faith underlying opposing viewpoints) and his social-justice agenda reflect the views of American Catholic laity much more...

Protesters who say Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is a poor role model for Catholic women because of her pro-choice views are planning a rally today outside graduation ceremonies at an all-girls Catholic school in Bethesda where the former lieutenant governor is scheduled to speak. Townsend, the failed Democratic candidate for governor last year, attended the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart until her sophomore year, and with her background in public service and education seemed a perfect choice to address the 83 graduates, said school spokeswoman Helen Drury Macsherry. --SNIP-- Copyright © 2003, The Baltimore Sun

Maryland TRT members were on the frontlines, in the cold, pouring rain, until the jublilant end! Some of the many Maryland Tyranny Response (TRT) patriots and FReepers celebrate with other grassroots campaign volunteers at the Ehrlich/Steele for Governor victory celebration in Gaithersburg, Maryland, right after the polls closed Tuesday night. Maryland TRT members worked 13 hour shifts at key swing voter polling places for the Ehrlich/Steele (R) gubernatorial campaign in Montgomery County, Maryland on November 5, 2002. The evening rush hour shifts were worked outside during the cold, pouring rainstorm that hit this area last night. This explains the bedraggled...

WASHINGTON -- The two gubernatorial candidates in Maryland are working hard to get out the vote just one week before the general elections, NEWS4 reports. The latest NEWS4/Mason-Dixon poll shows Maryland Republican gubernatorial candidate Rep. Bob Ehrlich is once again leading Democrat Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend. And, voter turn out could be a key in the campaign's final days, NEWS4 reports. The NEWS4/Mason-Dixon poll released Wednesday shows Ehrlich taking a one percentage point lead over Townsend. It has been a back-and-forth battle, but Ehrlich currently has 47 percent to Townsend's 46 percent. Last month, it was Townsend who was...

NBC evening news for Sat. 10/18 had a report on how Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is apparently running gun-issue ads showing Columbine to defame her GOP opponent, Bob Ehrlich. The reporter DID say that polls showed it may be "backfiring" some fifty-odd percent to twenty-eight percent.

According to a poll released on October 8 by WJLA TV in Washington, Bob Ehrlich leads Lieutenant Governor Townsend by a margin of 51 - 47 %.

During the debate at Morgan State, KKT scolded her Republican opponent for wanting to reach out to African Americans by saying: "This is not Star Trek. African Americans are not aliens."

Ron Smith just scored a football! HRH Kathleen Kennedy Townsend sat for an hour+ interview on WBAL radio with Ron Smith and various Maryland callers. There were many excellent questions raised and some absolutely astounding answers- including a few classic KKT statements. There was even some empty "air" time as Ron Smith sat, I am sure, dumbfounded at some of her responses and times when she was completely stumped. What follows is a rough outline of the questions and the answers paraphrased from my notes. My thanks to the excellent callers and emailers that had that woman squirming in her...

<p>Maryland Democrats profess to be shocked by the behavior of political consultant Julius Henson, who on Friday, in his official first day on the job as a consultant working to turn out black voters in Prince George's County for Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, denounced Republican gubernatorial nominee Robert Ehrlich as "a Nazi" and "a bad man."</p>

<p>The gubernatorial campaign of Democratic Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend demanded Monday that Republican Robert Ehrlich stop running a television ad linking the administration to corruption or provide evidence to justify the claim.</p>
<p>The ad begins with Ehrlich talking about "the mess in Annapolis" and then switches to a graphic referring to Townsend and Gov. Parris Glendening.</p>

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend have issued new subpoenas seeking personnel records for a former Maryland State Police employee and the computer hard drive of another former state worker, officials said yesterday. <p>August 19, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - Andrew Cuomo isn't the only Kennedy kin whose political ambitions are running into trouble this summer.</p>
<p>Kathleen Kennedy Townsend - sister of Cuomo's wife, Kerry, and eldest daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy - was supposed to be a shoo-in as Maryland's next governor, but suddenly, she isn't.</p>

KATHLEEN K. Townsend is a Kennedy and there's nothing she can do about that. But she could have skipped that $2,000-a-head Hyannis Port party last month - the $4,000-a-plate one two summers ago, with chocolate mousse boats and white-chocolate sails bearing KKT's initials, was bad enough - and maybe she could chill on the out-of-state fund raising and the cocktail parties at Uncle Teddy's house. If I were advising this woman - and who isn't these days? - I'd tell her to lay off the lobster-and-Chablis fetes because those events come with a pretty high gag factor among the Great...

<p>BALTIMORE - It is a sweltering day as Lieutenant Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend descends the stairs of the ''Great Blacks in Wax Museum'' and enters the mock belly of a slave ship. The daughter of Robert F. Kennedy, who wants to become the first woman governor of Maryland, is clearly emotional as she views lifelike models of chained children and listens to a raspy, recorded voice that repeats: ''Remember! Remember!''</p>

In office buildings on either side of the Maryland State House yesterday, day-long deliberations about ethics replaced the usually somnolent summertime ambiance of Annapolis. Twelve politicians who might otherwise have been out campaigning sat in a dimly lighted conference room discussing allegations of misbehavior lodged against six of their colleagues. Nearby, the independent State Ethics Commission was putting the final touches on strict new rules that could lead to the expulsion of one of Maryland's top-grossing lobbyists.

<p>WASHINGTON — To friends and foes, Maryland's Democratic lieutenant governor is "KKT."</p>
<p>The first "K" is for Katherine, the "T" is for Townsend and in her run for governor, it's the middle "K" that gets national attention. She's the eldest child of the late Robert F. Kennedy.</p>
