Five Oklahoma police officers will be charged with first-degree manslaughter in the killing of a 15-year-old burglary suspect who was shot more than a dozen times last November, authorities said Wednesday. Stavian Rodriguez was accused of trying to rob an Oklahoma City convenience store at gunpoint on Nov. 23 when several cops surrounded him in a caught-on-tape confrontation. Surveillance video obtained by local media appears to show the teen dropping a gun as officers repeatedly ordered him to get on the ground. He then raised his hands before lowering them again, a move that cost him his life. Seconds later,...

"Is Christ's work finished? Is God's word true? Yes, verily. Then, if I simply trust therein, I am pardoned, justified, and accepted. All my sins were laid on Jesus when He was nailed to the cursed tree. Jehovah made them all meet on Him. He bore them and put them away; and, now, He is up in heaven without them. This is enough for me. If the One who stood charged with all my guilt is now at the right hand of the Majesty in the heavens, then, clearly, there is nothing against me. All that divine justice had against...

The teens had just asked permission from Monroe to look for their dog, a Great Pyrenees, who’d strayed onto Monroe’s property. Image from cjonline.com Topeka Kansas had 30 homicides in 2017. That is a record setting number. Of the 30 homicides, four have been ruled as justified so far. The Topeka Capitol-Journal published that nine of the homicide investigations were still open at the end of the year. Presumably, the Cazee-Watkins case was one of those. From cjonline.com: Cazee-Watkins was arrested Thursday in connection with criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and interference with a law enforcement officer (conceal/alter/destroy evidence). He is being held on a $20,000 bond. “The death of Kenneth Vetaw was investigated simultaneously with the...

A white man killed Robinson and wounded Kennedy after they kidnapped him, robbed him, and threatened to rape and kill his wife. The Marshal project claims to be non-partisan. It admits that it is not neutral. In a recent report, it shows that more justifiable homicides are committed by whites against black attackers than the national average. The report implies that this is because of institutionalized racism. Three things stand out from the report. It is obsessed with racial disparities, with the strong implication that they are caused by institutionalized racism, particularly white racism. It ignores previous research showing...

Benjamin Jasper Carter In a previous essay, I mentioned that we do not know what proportion of unsolved homicides are justified homicides. The reason is that most homicides are violent criminals killing other violent criminals, and that because a person is a criminal, they are reluctant to report a self defense shooting to police. From the previous essay: In the United States, about 37.5% of the homicides are unsolved. In Chicago in 2013, the number was 75% unsolved. Most homicides involve criminals killing other criminals. How many of those would be justifiable if solved is unknowable; but clearly some...

Romans 5:1 is a favorite verse for Calvinists and those who hold to the doctrine commonly known as “once saved, always saved:” Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. This text is believed to indicate that the justification of the believer in Christ at the point of faith is a one-time completed action. All sins are forgiven immediately—past, present and future. The believer then has, or at least, can have, absolute assurance of his justification regardless of what may happen in the future. There is nothing that can separate the...
