Despite claims that the riot was an insurrection, the vast majority of defendants have been given relatively minor charges. It is tempting to describe Wednesday’s impeachment hearing before the House Judiciary Committee as a farce. But it was worse than that. It made a travesty of fairness. With Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y. at the helm of the Judiciary Committee, there was no real chance that President Trump would be treated equitably. One of the most interesting new disclosures today in the Comey hearing was the admission by former FBI Director James Comey that he intentionally used a “friend” on the Columbia law faculty to leak his memos to the media.  Comey says that he did so to force the appointment of a Special Counsel. However, those memos could be viewed as a government record and potential evidence in a criminal investigation.

We have been following the ban imposed on conservative radio host Michael Savage by England — barring him from entry into the country. England now appears to have reaffirmed the decision and accuses Savage of promising to retract some of his statements and failing to do so. While I strongly disagree with many of Savage’s statements, I view the ban as part of a disturbing trend limiting free speech in the West and particularly in England. NEW YORK - Late on Monday the NYC City Council overrode a veto from Mayor Michael Bloomberg forcing NYC to abandon doing any business with organizations that do not offer benefits to partners of same sex couples. This move from the city council calls into question the future of relationships with organizations like Jewish Charities, Catholic Charities, and the Salvation Army. These organizations - all faith based - have religious/doctrinal reasons for not promoting homosexual relationships and their record of public good was proven long ago.
