Fans of the holiday classic “A Christmas Story” are celebrating the film’s 25th anniversary with a convention and trips to the house where the movie was made. The 1983 film, an adaptation of Jean Shepard’s memoir of a boy in the 1940s, was set in Indiana but largely filmed in Ohio. Well, I double--make that TRIPLE-- dog dare you not to see this classic movie! Hardly noticed when released in 1983 (not much of a promo budget, and I think it only went out to 100 theatres) but it has gotten a cult following since then. Dreams of getting that Little Orphan Annie decoder ring ("A crummy commercial!") and of course the Red Ryder BB Gun (careful, you'll shoot your eye out with it, kid). Having your mom dress your kid brother up so heavily for a cold day that he can't put his arms down. Be careful the neighbor's dogs...

<p>We bear glad tidings for the Ralphie Parkers of America on this, the official opening day of the Christmas shopping season: Santa may yet come through with that genuine Red Ryder BB-gun. Even if it will come covered in warning labels instead of wrapping paper.</p>
