US launches “accurate” Arabic satellite television broadcasts In a bid to offset the spread of anti-American messages by pan-Arab media outlets, the US government launched Al-Hurra, a satellite television station broadcasting Arabic language news and information programming across the Middle East and North Africa, on Saturday, February 14, 2004. The broadcast schedule will expand progressively over the first month of operations to the point of providing a round-the-clock news and information service by March 14, stated a press release. “The people will hear free and open discussions not just about conflict in the Middle East, but also about subjects...

The Bush administration took over Iraqi state television yesterday, replacing tributes to Saddam Hussein with conciliatory greetings from President Bush, the Pentagon and British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The shows were beamed onto Baghdad's Channel 3, one of the deposed government's frequencies. The Pentagon-controlled programming is part of a multimedia campaign to persuade Iraqis -- sometimes by using the abandoned infrastructure of Hussein's propaganda networks -- that their country is being liberated, not occupied, and that self-government and free enterprise are on the way. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A5428-2003Apr10.html

MSNBC, ARNETT Complicit in Geneva Violations??I noticed last night during the Iraqi news conference when Iraqi VP Taha Yassin Ramadan (who is responsible for the mass murder of Kurds and Shiites) boasted to Peter Arnett [now with MSNBC/Nat'l Geo] and other 'objective international journalists' that IraqiTV would soon be showing 'captured American soldiers', that NOT ONE journalist, [esp Arnett!!!] raised their voice to complain that such action and video was a gross violation of the Geneva Accords. Therfore IMO, Arnett is also complicit in these outrageous Geneva violations against our servicemen and I have written a strongly worded letter to...
