We at Intersections are deeply saddened by the stabbing incident on Tuesday evening, perpetrated against a Muslim New York City cab driver. Our earnest prayers are extended to the victim, Mr. Ahmed Sharif, for a full and speedy recovery. There is no place in this city, or anywhere else, for such senseless acts of violence. The Muslim World League (MWL) is a Saudi Arabia-based international organization that promulgates a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam around the world through a large network of charities and affiliated organizations. In recent years, the MWL's has attempted to portray itself as a broad global Islamist organization, outwardly emphasizing tolerant aspects of Islam and promoting itself as a leader in interfaith dialogue. While Pope Benedict XVI will continue to show the world that he tried by having more interfaith talks, it appears that he knows that nothing will result from them. He sees that these conferences are full of empty talk by Muslims, as nothing actually gets any better for the Christians and Jews living in Islamic countries.
