INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The IndyCar Series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway are going green. Penske Entertainment, the parent company of the series, announced Friday it will start implementing more eco-friendly plans starting with next month’s Indianapolis 500. The race is scheduled for May 29. All tires delivered to the speedway also will be relayed by electric vehicles and all electricity consumed at the speedway this May will be purchased through 100% renewable energy credits. Race organizers say fans also can offset their carbon footprint by donating to the GreenTrees reforestation project, something the speedway will support financially. Other initiatives to be...

A news editor for a small, independent newspaper was in support of the protests-turned-riots, until they broke into the paper's office and she had to take cover from looters and vandals in the basement. Leigh Tauss, an editor for the progressive news outlet Indy Week in North Carolina, was stunned to find that the protesters-turned-rioters did not look favorably upon her business when they swept the area. She tweeted out on Saturday, saying "the crowd is extremely peaceful and groups and many are wearing masks and trying to keep distance." These are just a few observations. I encourage other Freepers to add to this thread. I just just in the 8th grade at this time and was addicted to the race, having attended the '62 and '63 races. This event I watched on closed circuit TV at Graumann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Shortly into the race there was a picture that I cannot forget, a screen filled with smoke and fire in a wreck that was so bad it stopped the race and claimed the lives of two drivers. Dave McDonald drove Micky Thompson's car, which used gasoline. He lost...

INDIANAPOLIS - 'Tis the season for crime and violence. Two more shootings this weekend left two people, including a 15-year-old boy, dead. But unfortunately, the violence doesn't surprise some. It's another deadly trend going in the wrong direction. This weekend's violence started Friday night with the shooting of Michael Boyd, who was 23. It happened following a disturbance at a Shell gas station on the city's northeaRev. Charles Harrison, leader of the Ten Point Coalition, says December is typically a violent month because even criminals are trying to collect money to provide Christmas for their families.st side. After getting shot,...

Two of four submissions have now been unveiled by the companies wishing to produce the next generation of IndyCar open-wheel racers, and the most recent one is one of the most fascinating looking racecars we've ever seen. The DeltaWing submission is a radical departure from traditional open-wheeler design - in fact, the only thing you could really compare it to is the bizarre lovechild of a drag racer and a Batmobile. With its comically narrow rocketship front end, broad rear end and narrow tyres, the DeltaWing aims to outperform the current crop of IndyCars for significantly less money, while delivering...
