“And the perps immigration status is _____________.”
They probably have visas issued by Los Zetas or el Cartel de Nuevo Leon.
“Gonzalez-Ramirez faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, battery, carrying a handgun without a license and a criminal gang activity enhancement. He was being held on $500,000 bond and an Immigration hold. Jail records show he is a citizen of Mexico.”

I pray for the recovery of the officer.

From what I’ve read, criminal gang enhancement basically means that if the crime you commit happens to be in relationship to or in furtherance of gang activity, there can be significant extra time added to your sentence.
So, I guess it’s sort of like a hate crime law, only for gang bangers?
