I just returned home from putting my badly injured dog to sleep. Euthanizing a beloved pet never gets easier.

U.S. Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards said in a new op-ed that it “physically hurts” to talk about the Capitol riot, adding that the House Jan. 6 select committee issuing its report this week represents “nothing final.” Edwards, who was injured in the attack last year and testified publicly this summer before the House panel, said in The New York Times that it could take years for her and other officers to find peace after being traumatized during the rioting. “Many Americans think that the saga of the Capitol riot will soon be at its end,” Edwards said in the...

Michelle Obama says six years after Donald Trump’s White House win, his victory “still hurts.” “It felt like something more something much uglier than a simple political defeat,” Obama said in a clip from the audio version of her forthcoming book, “The Light we Carry,” published Monday by NPR. The part-self-help book, part-memoir is poised to be released on Tuesday. “I couldn’t help but return to the choice our country had made to replace Barack Obama with Donald Trump. What were we to take from that?” Obama said. “Barack and I always tried to operate on the principles of hope...

Police had their weapons drawn as they ordered Nick Wright and his 13-year-old daughter to put their hands on the hood of the car they had rented less than an hour earlier. “I couldn’t see my daughter for most of the situation, so I felt completely helpless,” Wright said. “I was being detained with my fingers locked behind my head and police telling me to shut up. It was surreal.” Wright and his daughter were on vacation and had just landed at Savannah airport. They’d rented the car about 30 minutes before officers stopped them.

Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) said Thursday on Fox News Channel’s “Your World” that it “hurts” when asked how it feels to be a pariah in the Republican Party. On the January 6 Capitol riot, Cavuto asked, “The leadership was almost universally critical at the time, including Mitch McConnell and Kevin Mccarthy and others, yourself, of course, that raised serious questions about the president’s behavior at the time and then radio silence. What happened?”

CNN’s Van Jones said Tuesday that “it hurts” that the presidential race between Joe Biden and Donald Trump was so close. Jones said, “I think a lot of Democrats are hurt tonight. I think there’s a lot of hurt out there. There’s a moral victory, and there’s a political victory. They’re not the same thing.”

Interviewed by the school administration , the prospective teacher said: "Let me see if I've got this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior , observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits , censor their T-shirt messages and instill in them a love for learning. You want me to check their backpacks for weapons , wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self-esteem and personal pride . You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship , sportsmanship and fair...

This vanity post describes my fascinating journey towards becoming a semi-cripple for the rest of my life. A week ago last Saturday I was replacing smoke detector batteries in my home and fell off a ladder I’ve been to war, flew fighters and was a Texas police officer and I make it through relatively uninjured, but falling off a ladder does me in. Yup. That simple and that silly. And all my fault. There is a long recovery ahead, with full recovery not really possible. I may need a walker, may need a cane for the rest of my life.

“The number of immigrants added to the labor force every year is of a magnitude not seen in this country for over a century,” Obama noted. “If this huge influx of mostly low-skill workers provides some benefits to the economy as a whole—especially by keeping our workforce young, in contrast to an increasingly geriatric Europe and Japan—it also threatens to depress further the wages of blue-collar Americans and put strains on an already overburdened safety net.”

Democrats must ignore hard realities to maintain their ideological leanings. To be a Democrat means to live in denial. Consider all of the things you must ignore or explain away: The PIGS. Not the chauvinist pigs whose transgressions preoccupied feminists in the 1970s, but PIGS as in Portugal, Ireland, Greece, and Spain — nations facing sovereign-debt crises because they pursued exactly the sort of policies Democrats favor for this country. The PIGS share bloated government sectors (in Greece the government employs 33 percent of workers), generous unemployment packages, high minimum wages, dire pension obligations, and shrinking tax bases. Each week...

(CNSNews.com) – Although the Obama administration officially lifted the six-month ban on offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico in October 2010, a new report finds that the “de facto” moratorium still in place is harming American consumers and the budgets of local and state governments. Since October, the Department of the Interior has approved only a handful of deepwater drilling permits in the wake of last year’s BP well explosion and subsequent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The report, issued by the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA), said increasing offshore drilling production could add nearly $5...

It may be the height of the holiday season, but about a million people are about to get life-altering news. On Thursday, 300,000 school and college students will receive their A level results. A week later, another 700,000 will find out how they did in their GCSEs. Movies such as Spiderman 2 and Speed generate excitement among audiences with their cool special effects. But they also defy the laws of physics, contributing to students’ ignorance about science. Two University of Central Florida professors show just how poorly Hollywood writers and directors understand science in an article published in the German...

Love 'really hurts' Last Updated: 2:51am BST 07/08/2007 Being in love does make you sick, scientists believe. According to researchers at Imperial College London, the ups and downs of romance can be dangerous. "Love has some obvious physical effects," said Professor Martin Cowie. "Pupils dilate, palms become sweaty and the heart rate increases. Large amounts of adrenaline are running through our system which does cause problems," he added. Stress-related illnesses at work arise from similar physical conditions, Prof Cowie says. "We have seen a big rise in people complaining of flu-like symptoms over a long period of time," he said....

WASHINGTON, April 3, 2007 – Further congressional delay in forwarding an appropriate emergency war spending bill to the White House will damage military readiness and morale as well as endanger the nation, President Bush told reporters today at a White House news conference. “Congress’s failure to fund our troops on the front lines will mean that some of our military families could wait longer for their loved ones to return from the front lines, and others could see their loved ones headed back to the war sooner than they need to,” Bush said. That scenario is “unacceptable,” Bush said,...

California's Legislative Analysts Office recently reported that the state faces an unfunded liability of $40 billion to $70 billion (and growing) for state employees' retiree health costs, which would require $6 billion a year for 30 years to fund. This comes on the heels of the Los Angeles Unified School District's doubling its estimated unfunded liability for such costs to $10 billion. Those reports ratchet up the magnitude of the state's deferred-compensation disaster from a September review that found California's biggest government agencies faced over $100 billion in unfunded liabilities for existing pension, health care and workers' comp commitments (itself...

Illegal aliens: Democrats stumped By Froma Harrop PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Hillary gets it. Hillary Clinton says she's against illegal immigration. And she would fine employers who hire illegal aliens. Pundits say the Democratic senator from New York is using this hot-button issue to position herself for the 2008 presidential election. It's a way to hit Republicans from the right. Polls show huge majorities of both Republicans and Democrats oppose illegal immigration - and are frustrated that President Bush won't do a thing to stop it. But this issue does not belong to the right. Or it shouldn't. Illegal immigration hurts...

As Gov. Rendell and state legislators consider a proposal for a $7 an hour minimum wage, they should also bear in mind Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan's warning that such a move "prevents people who are at the early stages of their careers... from getting a foothold in the ladder of promotions." Wage-hike proponents often argue that minimum-wage employees haven't had a raise since Congress last increased the national rate. But few entering the workforce at the minimum wage stay there for long. Nearly two-thirds get a raise within one to 12 months. Most low-wage earners simply don't need...

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's sky-high popularity dropped as division deepened over a budget stalemate dominated by partisan politics, according to a poll released Thursday. Schwarzenegger, who enjoyed near-record performance ratings two months ago, received approval from 57 percent of Californians in a survey from the Public Policy Institute - a fall of 7 percentage points since the group's poll in taken in May. While his approval numbers remained high, the survey found most of the drop came among Democrats and independent voters - two groups that had been most enthusiastic about Schwarzenegger's efforts to remain above the partisan...
