DNA technology has helped police identify a man who's been dead for 20 years as the suspect in the slaying of two 16-year-olds in Fremont in 1982, authorities said on Tuesday. The identification of Clifton Hudspeth finally brings closure to the families of Mary Jane Malatag and Jeffrey Flores Atup, who were cousins.

<p>Plenty of theories have been floated to explain Attorney General Richard Ieyoub's failure to make the Nov. 15 runoff for governor. Most commentators have pointed to low voter turnout and a well-financed challenge by former Congressman and fellow Democrat Claude "Buddy" Leach of Lake Charles.</p>

<p>Representatives of the U.S. Justice Department's community relations service will be in Shreveport by week's end to look into feelings about the March 15 fatal shooting of Shreveporter Marquise Hudspeth by police, who mistook his cellular telephone for a gun.</p>
