Hamas, which advocates jihad to destroy the State of Israel and calls to boycott the Jewish state, demanded a greater supply of electricity from Israel to Gaza on Sunday. Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri charged the "Israeli occupation" with responsibility for a house fire "which burned to death this week three toddler members of the al-Hindi family in Gaza." The fire broke out due to the family lighting candles in their apartment, as their neighborhood had been suffering from a blackout at the time. Abu Zuhri also accused Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas and PA Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah...

A 90-year-old man pulled his wife of 68 years to safety in her wheelchair as a fire ravaged their North Carolina home. Arthur Schneider jumped into action after a lightning storm hit a street transformer, causing flames to crawl through his Asheboro house, he told the Daily News Saturday. Arthur immediately thought of his wife Rosemary, 89, who has Parkinson’s disease and dementia. She was all the way at the back of the house and cannot walk. “I had to go back and get her,” Arthur said. “She’s part of me.” The smoke alarms “were all buzzing” as the power...

I smelled one whiff of smoke as I walked through the house at 2:19 a.m. No smoke detectors went off and I did not smell it again. Searching the house I finally found one Lux thermostat that was not working. It runs the # 2 furnace in this big house. After finally figuring out how to get the cover off (I'm an older lady living with 2 cats), I discovered the batteries ....dated 2011...were moderately corroded. It takes two batteries and of that size I had only one new one. I finally robbed one out of the wireless computer mice...

My friend, Jennifer, has had a terrible week. Right before Christmas her purse was stolen out of her locked car. She lost $400, two smart phones, all of her ID and important papers. Tonight her house caught fire. I haven't heard yet if any of it is salvageable. Her husband works the night shift so she was home alone when this happened. She is OK except for pain in her lungs because of smoke inhalation. I know tragic events come to both the good and the not so good. Jennifer is one of the loving ones who is always serving...

The Blaze reports that upscale homes in Massachusetts are being targeted by arsonists with a clear political message. In two incidents, the message “f*** the rich” was found, and "incendiary devices" were discovered in one home set ablaze. As disturbing as these reports are, one aspect is not being examined - the impact of charged political rhetoric used by the left in attacking the compromise deal between the President and the GOP. Liberal Democrats, like Washington's Jim McDermott, have engaged in class warfare in a concerted effort to demonize the plan. McDermott went so far as to call the compromise...

California lawmakers will consider requiring that only "fire-safe" cigarettes designed to extinguish when left in ashtrays or dropped onto bedroom mattresses can be sold in the state. Legislation to be unveiled Monday comes nearly seven months after implementation of a similar standard in New York. The goal is to save lives and property destroyed by fires ignited by cigarette butts that are carelessly or accidentally discarded. "Pretty soon, it's going to sweep the country," predicted Steve Blackledge, legislative director for the California Public Interest Group. "It's common sense and it's safer for consumers."
