Reporter for Real Clear Politics Phil Wegmann pressed White House press secretary Jen Psaki Thursday on President Joe Biden’s false claims that there are no background checks at gun shows. Wegmann attempted to get Psaki to clarify Biden’s remarks, but she instead contradicted what he said at his Thursday announcement of new executive gun control measures, and reiterated his position that he supports universal background checks. “The president said a moment ago ‘you go to a gun show, you can buy whatever you want, no background check.’ Is there a special exemption in federal law that he was referring to,...

Roanoke has banned guns from city-owned parks, libraries and offices as well as from municipal recreation centers and events in public spaces. Gun shows eventually will be prohibited at the city-owned Berglund Center, though an event already under contract can go forward, specifically Saturday’s Roanoke Valley Gun Show, City Attorney Tim Spencer said. In addition, the gun prohibition will cover parades, political marches and similar gatherings that require an assembly permit to be held on city property or public rights-of-way, officials said. Some exceptions will apply. The Roanoke City Council approved the guns ban in a 6-1 vote Monday, with...

A 2005 Supreme Court ruling states that the police do not have a constitutional duty to protect citizens. A $10 million study conducted by the Obama administration concluded that firearms used for self-defense are an important crime deterrent and that restrictions on gun ownership do not reduce gun violence. The right to bear arms is based on three English Common Law rights that existed in 1607: The right of group self preservation. These English Common Law rights are the basis for the interpretation of the Constitution of the United States. The Code of of many states including the Commonwealth...

TALLAHASSEE — Have gun, will vote? Florida Republicans working to reelect President Donald Trump will send volunteers to a gun show this weekend as part of a broader effort to sign up new voters in the battleground state. An internal “Trump Victory Team” email circulated Thursday, days after a pair of mass shootings stunned the nation, said the upcoming gun show in South Florida was “a great opportunity to make sure people are up to date on their voter registration and know more about the efforts of the Trump administration to address public safety and second amendments rights.” Democrats quickly...

Thousands of guns recovered in Maryland last year traced back to 49 states, but the largest portion of firearms was bought locally… ATF agents were able to determine where nearly 5,900 of the firearms were sold, according to a new analysis by the ATF, which publishes the findings of its gun traces each year. Some 47 percent were bought in Maryland, the ATF found. Virginia ranked second and supplied about 15 percent of the guns. Pennsylvania came third with nearly 7 percent. Some firearms were bought as far away as Texas (101 guns) and California (46 guns).

When a Bay Area county decided to pass a law that effectively banned gun shows from its fairgrounds, it sparked one of the nation’s longest running legal battles over the right to bear arms. In the end, the county conceded and the gun shows were allowed to resume under stricter rules, leaving some of the central constitutional questions around the issue unsettled. Once again, gun shows at publicly-owned convention centers and fairgrounds are being targeted for expulsion around the state. And the legal roadmap is no less clear. History around such efforts shows a mix of outcomes, marked at times...

Amid heightened concerns about firearms in the wake of last month’s Parkland, Florida, high school shooting massacre, Santa Clara County officials are taking another look at banning gun shows from the county fairgrounds. The Santa Clara County Fairgrounds currently hosts two gun shows a year. But county Supervisor Ken Yeager said gun shows conflict with the county’s mission of “promoting the health and well-being of our residents” and have drawn complaints from residents. “More and more often, I am getting approached by people who tell me how disturbed they are when they see billboards or signs advertising gun shows at...

Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin on Wednesday attributed the guns laws in Indiana for the continued wave of violence in neighboring Chicago.“We’re next to Indiana and if you got to a gun show in Indiana, you can purchase a gun without a background check. And so that’s what’s happening,” Mr. Durbin,a Democrat, said on MSNBC. “The drug gangs and these thugs are filling up the trunks of their car and heading into the neighborhoods of Chicago. And we see these gun violence crimes happening every single day.”Mr. Durbin said that nearly 600 people have died in Chicago due to gun-related deaths...

U.S. Gun-Show Customers’ License Plates Come Under Scrutiny Federal agents enlisted local police to scan cars’ plates at shows’ parking lots By Devlin Barrett Oct. 2, 2016 7:35 p.m. ET Federal agents have persuaded police officers to scan license plates to gather information about gun-show customers, government emails show, raising questions about how officials monitor constitutionally protected activity. Emails reviewed by The Wall Street Journal show agents with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency crafted a plan in 2010 to use license-plate readers—devices that record the plate numbers of all passing cars—at gun shows in Southern California, including one in...

A senator who spent New Year's Eve tweeting every shooting that had multiple victims in 2015 is at the White House today to help President Obama craft his gun-control executive order. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) -- who tweeted as the San Bernardino terrorist attack unfolded, "Your 'thoughts' should be about steps to take to stop this carnage. Your 'prayers' should be for forgiveness if you do nothing - again" -- told MSNBC today that he didn't know what Obama had planned, but he's sure it will be legal. "My belief is that he is well within his powers, the executive,...

After years of being a sucker and buying magazines off of the tables at gun shows, I'm done. I'm looking at my mags and I have about a dozen gun show mags and only maybe two or three are reliable and quiet. Most jam or don't activate the slide stop when empty or just plain rattle when loaded. I've spent an average of $15 each. For the same $ I could have bought 6 factory mags and have 6 good mags instead of 2 or 3. As an experiment I loaded a factory 7rd Ruger .45 mag with 7 rds...

CLEARWATER — Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri on Tuesday announced plans to strictly enforce a county law mandating background checks for all customers at gun shows, asserting local control in an area that has stubbornly resisted state and federal regulation. Gualtieri's initiative comes in response to a Tampa Bay Times story last month on the ineffectiveness of local laws closing the so-called gun show loophole. The Times reported that while seven of Florida's most populous counties — including Pinellas and Hillsborough — have ordinances requiring background checks for all sales at gun shows, the laws are largely ignored. According to...

Gun shows across the nation have experienced record turnout, even as the federal gun control push has hit a major roadblock. April gun shows—both before and after the Senate killed the Toomey-Manchin bill—have seen record crowds, as many fear the debate over the Second Amendment is not yet over. …

I have some questions I would like to ask and get a general idea of the thoughts of my fellow Freepers Last night I am watching O’Reilly – please no comments on why. It’s a long story. Anyway, he is talking to Beckel about his unConstitutional law he would like to see the government implement. As a side note, how does he reconcile in his mind when he states the government can’t protect people and then in the next breath wants the government to enact another law to make it more powerful. Anyway, Beckel makes a statement that people living...

Anyone who has any doubt about how much people love firearms wasn't trying to find a parking spot anywhere near Expo Center on Saturday. Individuals from all over the United States and even some foreign countries were at the fairgrounds to attend the Wanenmacher's Tulsa Arms Show, an event that continues on Sunday with a session from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Show manager Joe Wanenmacher said the semi-annual event usually draws between 35,000 to 40,000 people over the course of a weekend. He said he wouldn't be surprised if attendance reached 50,000 by closing time on Sunday. Wanenmacher said...

The New Mexico Legislature will not send legislation aimed at curbing gun violence to Gov. Susana Martinez’s desk, after a last-minute effort to approve a bill aimed at closing the state’s “gun show loophole” for background checks was thwarted in the Senate. Repeated attempts to amend the bill by Sen. George Munoz, D-Gallup, led to several Republican senators speaking until the session’s noon adjournment time arrived.

You’ll shoot your eye out kid! Or at least that’s what one Assemblywoman must believe of children that attend gun shows with their family. Linda Rosenthal (D) has introduced a new bill that would ban children under 12 from attending a gun show in New York state. Via the Times Union (the sarcasm is fantastic): The bill was put forward by Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, who hails from that trackless wilderness and sportsmen’s paradise known as Manhattan. “Children should be learning to read and write, not to shoot a firearm,” Rosenthal says in a statement, as if the two skills were...

SANTA FE – The state House has voted to close a gun show loophole that allows private vendors to sell weapons without doing background checks on buyers. The legislation has the support of GOP Gov. Susana Martinez, and eight Republicans joined all but three of the chamber’s Democrats to pass the bill 43-26. It headed to the Senate, where its prospects are uncertain. House Bill 77 would require private sellers at gun shows to have background checks done on prospective buyers before they make a sale. The bill’s backers said it would keep at least some guns out of the...
