It’s hard to think of many actors who became as legendary as R. Lee Ermey did for just 40 minutes of screen time. From the moment he first strolled through the milky gray barracks of “Full Metal Jacket” as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, screaming into the faces of his recruits, popping off taunts like firecrackers, you knew in your bones — you just knew — that you could forget every movie drill sergeant you’d ever seen. This is what those guys were really like. Everything about Ermey seemed to be made of leather: his face, his neck, his vocal cords, his...

Grenade! Everybody loves grenades, things that goes kaboom including the Gunny. But there are usually two separate groups you can fall into when talking about these awesome balls of explosives. One group is that: people whose only experience with grenades comes from video games like James Bond, Call of Duty, and Halo. Realistic, no, but enough to know they are super cool and effective. The other group, of course, consists of military servicemen and woman who have been specially trained and taught on all the actual ins and outs of grenades and anything that will launch them. (M-203) Most people...

Interviewing R. Lee Ermey, aka The Gunny, in his home was a rare and wonderful opportunity. I did my homework on him, and the night before our interview I watched videos of him online. Those I saw had him yelling at people and forcing them to do push-ups, so needless to say, I did not sleep much that night. What had I gotten myself into?! I was timid walking up to the door...Full story on Gunny here.
