Interviewing R. Lee Ermey, aka The Gunny, in his home was a rare and wonderful opportunity. I did my homework on him, and the night before our interview I watched videos of him online. Those I saw had him yelling at people and forcing them to do push-ups, so needless to say, I did not sleep much that night. What had I gotten myself into?! I was timid walking up to the door...
Full story on Gunny here.
One of the greatest movie scenes ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71Lft6EQh-Y
I shook his hand in passing at the NRA convention in Tulsa a few years ago. He is a tiny (but very tough) guy!
100% Dittos to that!! The great R. Lee Ermey at full throttle!
Oops, I meant in Charlotte. Memory-compression hit.
Real men don’t have Man Caves.
Man Caves are a womans invention.

Poor Brittany, all scared of this man. Did she think he was going to beat her up?
How so?! I don’t even have a man, so I wouldn’t know...

Man caves are a great idea.
I hate the phrase Man Cave. It grates on my nerves right along with fingernails on the chalk board.
I believe Brittany is gun writer Craig Boddington’s daughter (col. Boddington of the USMC)
Go to his brewery in Lancaster. It is pretty good
My man cave is my residence.
Ha! My “mancave” includes 30 acres of tillable, 30 acres of timber, 5 acres of pasture with a river running through it! Hahahaha!
I would love a 10th of that.
I’m stuck in the burbs with a tiny basement that I am trying to make something out of after years piling up stuff.
The other option I have a building the inlaws own a few blocks away full of junk, no power but a near constant police presence. I hope to get a generator this month so I can have some juice out there. There is the long neglected CJ7 to work on.
My source of any power is a decrepit old K5 blazer that I use for a portable winch hitching post to roll that 7 in. There is a slight grade and my knees aren’t up to pushing it around.
With better weather and more daylight that will sooner or later come, I plan to get it to either start or go ahead and budget out for a jasper and labor. Its just a 256.
It makes a hell of a protest trying to spin it over. Was going to roll start it or try but apparently the brakes are gone from sitting up. I have to get some kind of barricade up. There is a very good drop at the end of the run.
I knew the engine might be bad when I bought it but overall it is in OK condition and I am too big and fat it seems to sit in my Willys CJ5 for too long. It is staying anyway.
Men have shops. Real men know what to do in them. Wannabes watch the Home and Garden channel.
Having been there, done that, I never fail to bust out laughing at that scene. Funny now, not so funny then.
