Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared to take a shot at fellow Democratic lawmaker Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in a tweet on Saturday as progressives and moderates struggle to agree on key pieces of legislation. "There really isn't anything maverick, innovative, or renegade about being a politician that works with corporate lobbyists to protect the rich, short-shrift working families, and preserve the status quo," Ocasio-Cortez wrote, adding its one of the "most conventional ways to navigate politics." She didn't mention the Arizona senator by name, but the tweet was posted hours after a report suggested Sinema wanted to be remembered as a "maverick,"...

Grant Woods, who is also a former Arizona attorney general, said in an interview that he has spoken to several Democratic senators about the idea, including Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (N.Y.). Woods supported Hillary Clinton’s campaign for president and said he has been troubled by Trump in recent years. McCain’s death has led him to consider “whether I need to step up at this point in time,” he said.

Governor Brewer's campaign chairman, Grant Woods, has endorsed Democrat Attorney General candidate Felicia Rotellini over Republican Tom Horne. Woods, a long-time RINO, gave Tom Horne's willingness to enforce SB1070, a landmark illegal alien law, as his primary reason for his betrayal of Tom Horne and the Republican Party. According to sources within the Arizona Republican Party, Tom Horne is disgusted by Grant Woods endorsing the Democrat in the AG race and is annoyed with with Jan Brewer because she is keeping Woods as her campaign chairman. Other sources in the Republican Party indicated that top state party leaders have asked...

The Federal Election Commission has dismissed a complaint alleging that J.D. Hayworth improperly used his former Phoenix-area radio show in his bid to unseat Arizona Sen. John McCain. Former Attorney General Grant Woods, a McCain ally, filed the campaign finance complaint in December. Woods argued that Hayworth's use of his three-hour radio show on KFYI amounted to an illegal "in-kind" donation from the station. Hayworth hadn't yet announced that he would challenge McCain in the Aug. 24 Republican primary. His last broadcast was in late January. Elections authorities dismissed Woods' complaint on June 10. The commission found that Hayworth's radio...

Woods may switch from GOP to DemsHe's co-chairman of Salmon's campaign for governor By Chip ScutariThe Arizona Republic Oct. 25, 2002 Grant Woods, one of Arizona's most popular Republicans and co-chairman of Matt Salmon's gubernatorial campaign, is considering jumping to the Democratic Party after the Nov. 5 election. The defection of the former state attorney general would be a coup for Arizona Democrats, who have been courting moderates. Chairman Jim Pederson said he'd be thrilled to have Woods join the party. "He's a thoughtful, articulate person," said Pederson. Republican Party Chairman Bob Fannin didn't want to comment. Woods said he...

TUCSON - J.D. Hayworth, a former congressman and conservative AM radio host, nearly lost his voice this week delivering fiery attacks on John McCain, the Republican 2008 presidential nominee whom Hayworth accuses of betraying his party and getting too cozy with East Coast liberals. The four-term senator, says Hayworth, "is not the John McCain we knew." Hayworth’s assault from the right in a GOP primary has forced McCain to launch an early, aggressive defense of his seat. And today, McCain will attempt to enhance his conservative bona fides by hosting the party’s new darling, US Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts,...

The possible primary race for John McCain's U.S. Senate seat is getting more colorful. Former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, contending that former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth is violating campaign laws by promoting his possible bid on his radio talk show. "There's no problem with someone in his position talking about the issues of the day and the issues that are important to the country, but essentially, you've got a situation where Hayworth is spending hour after hour, day after day, promoting his possible candidacy for the U.S. Senate while a...

J.D. Hayworth yesterday took to the airwaves to pummel Grant Woods for filing a complaint with the FEC against the talk show host and potential Senate candidate. Woods alleged Hayworth is pulling in $540,000 a week in corporate in-kind contributions from KFYI/Clear Channel for using his show as a campaign platform. The response came in true talk show form as Hayworth called Woods an “ambulance chaser” who cashed in on a tobacco settlement lawsuit that was sold as a public health measure. “You’re even lower than some bacterial forms of algae, and that’s saying something,” Hayworth said, before chiding Woods...

We are all very fortunate to live in the East Valley, one of the really dynamic areas not only in the state but also in the nation. As you look around this area there are some incredible assets, and I would like to tell you about one of them. It is not Tempe Town Lake, or our freeways, or the new arts center that is going up in Mesa, or the Intel plant in Chandler. It is an individual, and his name is Grant Woods.
