AZ-Sen. 2010: Woods files FEC action on Hayworth's use of radio (says J.D. "terrible congressman")
The Arizona Daily Star, Tucson, Ariz. ^ | 2009-12-31 | Rhonda Bodfield

The possible primary race for John McCain's U.S. Senate seat is getting more colorful.

Former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, contending that former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth is violating campaign laws by promoting his possible bid on his radio talk show.

"There's no problem with someone in his position talking about the issues of the day and the issues that are important to the country, but essentially, you've got a situation where Hayworth is spending hour after hour, day after day, promoting his possible candidacy for the U.S. Senate while a corporation is paying for the airtime," Woods said.

Hayworth has a daily talk show on Phoenix radio station KFYI, which also features shows by conservative hosts Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage. Woods said Hayworth should either run and get off the airwaves, or change the subject.

Julia Queen, a spokeswoman for the FEC, said she could only verify that her office had received the complaint. She said she was not at liberty to say anything more about the case.

Hayworth could not be reached for comment, but he posted on Twitter, "Paging Mr. Grant Woods. You left your brain in the lobby! Woods tries to gag a non-declared, non-candidate citizen — me! 1st Amendment? Bah!" On his show, he dismissed Woods as an "ambulance chaser."

Woods was no less conciliatory. "I have no love lost for J.D. Hayworth," he said, adding, "I opposed him in his primaries and generals because I don't think too much of the guy. He was terrible as a congressman and would be more terrible as a senator."

Woods said he told McCain, his longtime political ally, about the impending complaint, and the senator had no problem with it.

Meanwhile, the two camps have been promoting dueling polls. A Rasmussen Reports poll from last month did a telephone survey of likely GOP primary voters and found McCain with 45 percent of the potential vote to Hayworth's 43 percent.

But then earlier this month, McCain supporters circulated a poll showing the incumbent with a 20-point lead. That poll angered Hayworth supporters — with Hayworth himself tweeting that McCain was doing "push polling" — because it also took those voters' temperatures after disclosing some unsavory details about Hayworth's tenure, including his dealings with disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The spread then was 62 percent to 29 percent, favoring McCain.

This is how the good ol boys network works to attack opponents.

The insiders versus the outsiders.

Its a fight to the finish with McCain.

They are scared. They know McCain is weak. People are remembering and not forgetting what these sorry professional politicians have done and are doing.

no wonder Juan and Fred Thompson wanted to ram campaign finance reform and its free speech restrictions through, despite 100% opposition from conservatives.

Sounds like one of McCain’s lackeys doing his dirty work so the useless old coot can keep in hands clean.

Woods said he told McCain, his longtime political ally, about the impending complaint, and the senator had no problem with it.

oooooh! So the former presidential candidate, high profile, three-term incumbent United States Senator is skeert of a guy with a little old radio show.

Woods was no less conciliatory. "I have no love lost for J.D. Hayworth," he said, adding, "I opposed him in his primaries and generals because I don't think too much of the guy. He was terrible as a congressman and would be more terrible as a senator."

And just what is it with this eviscerating of a fellow Republican? With this attempt to suffocate Republican political talent? Apparently Woods, McCain would much rather see Democrats in office if they, 'the Chosen', can't occupy the seat.

And, really, isn't three terms, eighteen years, enough to satisfy their egos? What's wrong with gracefully retiring, passing the torch and fostering a deeper & wider pool of Republican talent? If McCain so desperately needs something to do, why not get a real job? Or, better yet, go back to AZ & start a business, put some folks to work & help grow the economy?

Time for the Hayworth camp to not only hang Keating around McCain's neck, but to ram McCain-Feingold up his egotistical ass.

[Cue Hayworth campaign ad with continuous loop of McCain and his sh*t-eating grin in front of the crowds saying over and over "My Friends, My Friends, My Friends", etc., with the voice over intoning "When John McCain talks about his "friends", he's talking about liberals and Democrats. Isn't it time Arizona elected a REAL Republican to the Senate? It's time for J.D. Hayworth to start working for Arizona, so John McCain can go on and work full time for the Democratic National Committee."]

Time to take down loser RATS and RINOs. We will work toward winning primaries/generals w/ bonafide conservatives on the Republican ticket. Americans are disgusted with RATs and RINOs eviscerating our freedoms, and destroying our country.

We now have a Republican party whose only argument is “We are not Democrats." RINOs spend like drunken sailors when they get in. And they lose more races than they win.

================================================

PASS THE WORD To tea partiers, 9/12 marchers, pro-lifers; defense of marriage, 2nd amendment, anti ObamaCare, anti-amnesty, anti-cap/trade conservatives. It's in our hands to dictate the terms by which we support candidates.

HOLD CANDIDATES' FEET TO THE FIRE These are the terms under which we conservatives permit candidates to earn our support:

(1) Your conservative group holds an official position within the campaign;

(2) Your group's issue is affirmed in the candidate's platform;

(3) Your group is in attendance at all campaign strategy meetings;

(4) Your group holds a paid job in the campaign;

(5) Your group holds a paid position in the winning candidate's elective office.

(6) The candidate must renounce RINOS and pukeneos before he/she gets conservative endorsement.

McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform was carefully crafted to meet all of the requirements of previous Supreme Court decisions. It was a fairly mechanical bill which revised previous limits and sought to limit "soft money" donations to parties. It was standard stuff, not too different from the Goldwater-Boren Bill that Barry had sponsored. It tightened some limits and raised others on things that had been regulated for a hundred years, since the reforms of the early twentieth century.

Senators Snow and Jeffords added an amendment that prevented unions and corporations from "electioneering" with ads that mentioned a name close to an election. That was a bit dubious but unions and corporations were state created entities with special privileges and the regulations were well within Constitutional limits.

At the last minute Senator Wellstone cobbled together another amendment that extended the prohibition to "non-profits" ie. the NRA. This is the infamous "Wellstone Amendment". Everyone thought that it was unconstitutional, including John McCain. He fought against it and voted against it. Twenty four Republicans voted for the Wellstone Amendment but John McCain did not.

The vote was close but it passed due to the support from MITCH MCCONNELL AND TRENT LOTT AND PHIL GRAMM. Like the true southern gentlemen that they are, they openly collaborated with the Democrats to get the final few votes to put it over the top. In trying to preserve their thiefdoms they were looking for a poison pill for the Supreme Court to find unconstitutional and strike down the bill.

Unfortunately for them the bill was made severable (if one part were held unconstitutional the others would remain standing). President Bush signed the bill expecting that the Supreme Court would excise the offending section. That was what he said when he signed it. AND THEN THE COURT FOUND THE BASICS OF THE CFR (INCLUDING THE WELLSTONE AMENDMENT) CONSTITUTIONAL.

Everyone was shocked, including McCain. The dirt-for-brains goober conserbatibes had breached the First Amendment by trying to be too cute by half. It was McConnell and Lott who slid the knife into the backs of the American people. They gambled with our constitutional rights....and lost.
