Heads up! President Biden embraced a surprised-looking Pope Francis with an intimate forehead-to-forehead hug on Friday during the G7 summit in Italy. Biden, a devout Catholic, had met privately with the pontiff, who is the first pope in history to attend a G7 gathering to discuss world issues.

Democratic strategist Paul Begala said Friday on CNN’s “News Central” that President Joe Biden’s press conference addressing the report from Special Counsel Robert Hur was “terrible.” Host John Berman said, “How much democratic bedwetting do you think there will be?” Begala said, “Look, I’m a Biden supporter. And I slept like a baby last night. I woke up every two hours crying and wet the bed. This is terrible for Democrats, and anybody with a functioning brain knows that.”

CNN contributor Paul Begala said Monday on “The Lead” that if former President Donald Trump won the presidential primary, it would be a “catastrophe for the Republican Party.”Guest host Bianna Golodryga said, “I want to read an excerpt from The New York Times op-ed written by a retired and staunchly conservative Judge J. Michael Luttig. He called the Republican base spineless for its continued support of Trump. He said if he is convicted on espionage charges and fails to shake the Republican Party to its political senses, that it is beyond saving, nor ought to be saved. Were you surprised...

Former Clinton adviser and CNN political commentator Paul Begala said Wednesday on CNN’s “Newsroom” that President Joe Biden needs to use his upcoming coronavirus pandemic speech to combat “all these knuckle-dragging nincompoops on right-wing media who are lying to people.” Anchor Ana Cabrera said, “President Biden is not polling well right now. His approval rating has dipped below 50%. More Americans think he hasn’t been communicating clearly about the coronavirus response. Paul, how important is this upcoming speech in order to gain back the confidence of the American people?”

Ouch! Lil Uzi Vert is opening up about a rather painful experience he had with his fans. While attending the reopening and 18th-anniversary party of JAY-Z's 40/40 Club in New York City last weekend, the 26-year-old rapper spoke with TMZ on the red carpet, where he revealed that fans ripped out the pink diamond he has his forehead when he dove into a crowd at the Rolling Loud music festival in July. "I had a show at Rolling Loud and I jumped into the crowd and they kind of ripped it out," Lil Uzi Vert told the outlet of the...

Longtime CNN political analyst Paul Begala predicted on Monday that President Trump is "gonna dump [Vice President] Mike Pence in favor of former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley" on July 16 when the Democratic nominee is slated to give his or her acceptance address. The former "Crossfire" co-host "guaranteed" Trump will throw Pence "under the bus" because of his handling of the coronavirus, which the president tapped Pence to lead a task force on last week. “This is not a prediction. It’s a certainty. On Thursday, July 16, that’s the date the Democrat gives his or her acceptance address —...

In these hyperbolic times, it's easy to fall into overstatement. Somehow, the farm-to-table dining preferences of Sarah Huckabee Sanders or the subliminal, sartorial messages of the first lady have become the subject of breathless debate. Cotton-candy controversies swirl for a moment and then disappear. The replacement of retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy is not like that. It is, to paraphrase former Vice President Joe Biden, a big doggone deal. So big that Biden's old boss, former President Barack Obama, has descended from his Olympian remove to fire up the troops Thursday. He urged Democrats to quit moping, avoid complacency...

(CNN) — Sean Hannity is a welfare queen. The controversial performance artist, host of the eponymous unreality TV show, has been revealed by The Guardian as a beneficiary of a federal mortgage guarantee program. The Guardian found that Hannity owns millions of dollars of real estate through more than 20 shell corporations, which shield his identity. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, The Guardian notes, insured the mortgage loans with which Hannity purchased the properties. Let's be clear: This is a subsidy. This is a benefit. This is big government aiding a very wealthy man. This is welfare.

CNN commentator and longtime Clinton ally Paul Begala said Wednesday that the U.S. should be debating whether to "blow up" agencies like the GRU in an apparent call for President Donald Trump to bomb Russia. Begala, who like many Democrats praised Barack Obama for mocking Mitt Romney's description of Russia as "our No. 1 geopolitical foe" in 2012, said on CNN that Russia is a "hostile foreign power" and the Trump administration should be "retaliating massively" for Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential election in 2016. "We were and are under attack by a hostile foreign power, and they seem...

Yesterday, CNN host Kate Bolduan had guests Amy Kremer and Paul Begala on to discuss President Trump’s claim that Trump Tower was wiretapped. Trump originally made this claim two days before this segment aired, so this had undoubtedly been hashed out before on CNN. But apparently, we needed another 9-minute long segment on this topic.Midway through the segment, Paul Begala stepped in to turn the discussion from Trump’s allegations to another claim. “What we need is a credible, independent special prosecutor—two-thirds of the American people want—to get to the bottom of how Russia helped elect Donald Trump. That’s the...

It's just so, so, SO, unfair Technically, Paul Begala’s job title is “Senior adviser for Priorities USA Action and Democratic strategist, Paul Begala.” In reality, it should read “lifelong Clinton suck-up and media shill, Paul Begala.” He’s been wandering from network to network, defending the Clintons in one capacity or another, for decades. ...And that’s fine. It’s his bread and butter. It’s “what he does.” Special: Something Happened in Europe That Just Lowered Your Mortgage However, it looks like he’s finally had enough. Paul Begala is outraged. He’s fed up. He’s mad as hell and he’s not going to take...

Full Title: Paul Begala says his Hillary SuperPAC will PAY for a GOP debate with moderators Rush, Hannity, and O Reilly!! Paul Begala sneered through a CNN appearance where he challenged the GOP candidates by saying his pro-Hillary superPAC would actually pay for an 'unfettered' Republican debate with Bill O Reilly, Sean Hannity And Rush Limbaugh as moderators!! Watch the idiot bluster at link: I say go for it. I think they d be surprised about how fair but hard-hitting the questions would be. And let them spend their money on a GOP debate. I want to see it!! Ironically,...

Paul Begala who, along with partner James Carville, served as chief strategist to Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign, did not want Al Gore on the ticket. “I was not for Gore,” Begala told Bill Kristol recently. “I don’t think he knows that, so hopefully he won’t watch this tape.” Begala went on to discuss playing George W. Bush in 2000 debate prep for Gore: “I kicked his ass,” Begala boasted. “I watched all the tapes of Bush, and I think, as he would say, they ‘misunderestimated’ him.” At least some of the blame, Begala says, belongs to Bill Clinton, who...

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has generated a firestorm by asserting, at a fundraiser for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, “I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the President loves America.” Of course, that’s nuts. Barack Obama’s deep and true love for our country has been a hallmark of his career. “In no other country on Earth,” he said when he was seeking the presidency, “is my story even possible.” Obama said this, it should be noted, in his masterly speech on race — an issue that is America’s most difficult and...

Sure, it’s Paul Begala, but he’s not wrong — at least, not here. Even more amazing, Van Jones isn’t wrong either in saying that Democrats may need to look harder for anyone else who might still be on the bench. This is what three cycles of decline have produced for Democrats in the Barack Obama era (via Daniel Halper): “If Hillary Clinton doesn’t run,†[CNN's Jake Tapper] asked, “who’s on the bench then?â€â€œNo one,†said Begala. “No one. My party–it’s not fair, there are impressive people, that I think could be good presidents, but don’t have I think the...

With just hours to go before the first polls close, CNN political analyst Paul Begala expressed some concern that young people would not turn out in support of President Barack Obama in the numbers they did in 2008. Anderson Cooper asked Begala what he made of the apparent drop in enthusiasm among young voters for President Obama. Begala replied that he thought, as an Obama supporter, the lack of enthusiasm among young people was his “single biggest concern.” Begala did say, however, that the president’s increase in support among Latino voters and seniors – a traditionally pro-Republican bloc of voters...

Imagine the media outrage if a conservative commentator listed states where Barack Obama would be hunted down with dogs.On CNN's OutFront Friday, liberal contributor Paul Begala said, "When Bush Sr. carried Pennsylvania, he also carried California and Illinois and New Jersey, places where they would hunt Romney down with dogs" (video follows with transcript and commentary):PAUL BEGALA: It's a tough race. It's a tough year. Come on, [Obama's] not going to win Pennsylvania by ten or eleven or thirteen or whatever he won by last time. You know, Reihan might be right, but he's not. This is a bad move...

The Bush guru's new memoir offers a brief and compelling personal narrative, followed by 500 pages of dishonesty and deception. Clinton strategist Paul Begala reviews the Bush presidency. In writing his memoirs, Karl Rove faced a choice. He could reach for history: Fearlessly face the numerous failures of the Bush presidency, account for his role in the destruction of the American economy and a disastrous, dishonest war. Or he could play to his base: Deny everything, admit nothing, assert baldly that white is black. Guess which path he chose? I am not, I must admit, a fan of the political...

Begala calls Palin 'about half a whack job' Posted: August 14th, 2009 07:15 PM ET From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby WASHINGTON (CNN) — Longtime Democratic strategist Paul Begala hammered former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Friday — calling her "flaky and an intellectual lightweight." Begala was asked on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" to respond to a Politico story in which former House Speaker Newt Gingrich outlined several ways for Palin to repair her image. Although Begala called Gingrich "a brilliant political strategist," he said giving advice to Palin is an exercise in futility. "Here's the problem,"...
