Deer flies are the flies that buzz around your head when you go walking in or near the woods during the summertime (especially late June ot early August). These things make a walk in the woods miserable as they constantly dive-bomb your head - and if given a chance - will suck a copious amount of blood out of you by ripping open your skin with their jaws.
