One of Moscow's fighter jets has been shot down by Ukrainian forces, according to a military blogger with links to the Russian air force. Another pro-Moscow milblogger said that the Sukhoi Su-34 aircraft had been downed by a Western-supplied F-16. Neither report has been confirmed and Newsweek has contacted the Russian and Ukrainian defense ministries for comment over the unverified claims which have sparked much speculation on social media. The Telegram channel Fighterbomber posted on Saturday a message which looked like a tribute to a lost Su-34 fighter jet. Next to an image of the supersonic medium-range fighter bomber, which...

Reports from Russian media, including Vzglyad, claim that at least two Ukrainian F-16 fighter jets were ambushed while attempting to take off from Starokostiantyniv airport in western Ukraine. Allegedly, this attack was executed by a Russian Mikoyan MiG-31 supersonic interceptor. These reports, dated September 26 of this year, concern the recent Russian assault on the airport in western Ukraine. However, the Russian Ministry of Defense’s daily report for September 26 does not mention such an incident. Most Russian media reference the Voenno Delo [Military Business] Telegram channel, which is a Russian source. This account offers no additional details on the...

Today I heard that a Ukrainian airbase, and a good number of F16s, have been destroyed by the Russians. That's Zelinksy's winning hand while talking about his Victory Plan to Biden. That tells Joe, just keep on dishing out the billions of hard-earned American taxpayer cash to a loser. So in celebration of this bizarre event -- the chance occurrence that these planes would be destroyed on the day Zelinsky is talking to Joe -- I'm posting Count Vlad's video of THOR. The video really showcases the count's guitar playing. If you like the music, please subscribe.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has sacked the commander of Ukraine's air force, Lt Gen Mykola Oleshchuk, amid debate over the destruction of one of the country's valuable new F-16 fighter jets. Mr Zelensky did not give a reason for the dismissal, but in a post to Telegram he said that it was his responsibility to "take care of all our warriors". On Monday, one of the US-made F-16 fighter jets delivered earlier this month from Ukraine's Western allies went down during a barrage of Russian missiles, killing the pilot. The cause of the crash was not a direct result of an...

Ukraine was given approval by the Netherlands on Thursday to use its F-16 fighter jets to strike deep inside Russian territory. The American-made F-16 is an iconic fighter jet that’s been the front-line combat plane of choice for the NATO alliance and numerous air forces around the world for 50 years. Newsweek reports permission to use Western weapons on Russian soil is a key sticking among some of Ukraine’s supporters, with Kyiv claiming this could turn the tide in the conflict. The statements from the Netherlands indicate Ukraine’s other allies may soon follow suit, loosening restrictions on its activities deeper...

F-16, during the massive rocket attacks on August 26, was shot down with the help of Patriot air defense systems due to the lack of coordination between the units of the Ukrainian Air Force. This was stated by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mariana Bezuglaya. "According to my information, the F-16 of the Ukrainian pilot Alexei "Moonfish" Mes was shot down by the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system due to discoordination between units. The reports noted that he "failed to manage." The event took place during one of the most powerful air attacks of the Russians on August...

People's deputy from the party “Servant of the People” Maryana Bezugla claims that the crashed F-16 fighter jet was mistakenly shot down by Ukrainian forces. Earlier today, US sources reported the downing of the first Western F-16 fighter jet delivered just weeks ago to the Air Force of Ukraine. The information was also confirmed by Kiev, but it is not yet clear what the reason is. It is only known that the fighter jet crashed on August 26, Monday, when Russia launched its largest missile and drone attack since the first day of the invasion (February 24, 2022).

A top Ukrainian pilot was killed when a US-made F-16 fighter jet crashed on Monday, a Ukrainian Defence Forces source told CNN. The Ukrainian Defence Forces do not believe pilot error was behind the incident, the source added. The pilot, Oleksiy Mes known as “Moonfish,” was killed in the crash while “repelling the biggest ever aerial attack” by Russia against Ukraine, said the source, adding that the pilot was buried on Thursday.

SOMEWHERE IN UKRAINE (AP) – Ukraine’s newly arrived F-16 fighter jets were put on display Sunday by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said the planes will boost the country’s war effort against Russia. “These jets are in our sky and today you see them,” said Zelenskyy, standing in front of two of the fighter jets as two others flew overhead in close formation. “It’s good that they are here and that we can put them to use.”

Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelensky conceded on Wednesday that the US elections, which Donald Trump is favourite to win, poses a “challenge” to Ukraine. Ukraine has flown its first combat missions with an F-16 after the American-made fighter jets’ long-awaited arrival. The Telegraph understands the modern warplanes have only been used in an “air defence” capacity so far. A Ukrainian air force official did not deny this. A report by the Bloomberg news wire first revealed that a small, but unspecified, number of F-16s had been delivered to Kyiv.

The advanced U.S. fighter aircraft will mark a significant upgrade to Ukraine’s air force, but their impact on the war with Russia will hinge on several factors.Ukraine is set to receive U.S.-made F-16 fighter aircraft within months, an upgrade that Kyiv and its Western allies hope will help level the playing field with Russia’s formidable air force. But the F-16s will only have a meaningful impact on the war in Ukraine if Kyiv and its partners can build and maintain the extensive support and logistics infrastructure necessary to keep these world-class warplanes in the air. What is the F-16 and...

The first F-16 fighter jets are set to arrive in Ukraine from Nato member states, after many months of preparation and pilot training. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has said they are essential to help Ukrainians push back against Russia's aerial dominance and “unblock the skies”. Russian forces have been preparing for the Ukrainian F-16s too. They have targeted a number of Ukrainian military airfields and there are growing concerns that these long-awaited jets will be attacked and destroyed soon after they arrive. In July alone, at least three airfields have come under attack: Myrhorod and Kryvyi Rih in central Ukraine...

Western-provided F-16 fighter jets are on their way to Ukraine and set to start flying missions later this summer. But they may not yet be enough to make a difference on the battlefield, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated in a discussion this week on what Ukraine needs, comparing the jets to the US-made Abrams tanks that Ukraine got last fall. Asked by Fox News' host Bret Baier at the Reagan Institute if the 31 Abrams Ukraine received as its counteroffensive was already stumbling made a difference, Zelenskyy said: "I'm not sure that such number of tanks can change the situation...

WASHINGTON – Ukrainian pilots will take to the skies in American-made F-16 fighter jets in the coming weeks to deter Russian airstrikes, the leaders of the US, Denmark and the Netherlands announced Wednesday. Kyiv is set to receive 78 F-16s from a consortium of NATO countries who got President Biden’s permission last year to dispatch the American-made aircraft and train Ukrainian pilots. “The transfer process for these F-16s is now underway, and Ukraine will be flying operational F-16s this summer,” Biden, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a joint statement. Denmark and the...

Ten young pilots from Ukraine are currently training at an undisclosed airbase in the south of France on Alpha Jet training aircraft, considered as a bridge between a rotorcraft and an F16 fighter. In total, the French Air and Space Force has undertaken to certify the training of 26 pilots over the two years. This is the second stage of training campaign. During the initial stage, hosted by the UK, Ukrainian pilots were working on their English language and fighter jet piloting basics. The last, third stage, when pilots will get to fly the F-16s, will most likely be held...

Ukraine is urgently pressing the US and its allies to free up seats at their F-16 training schools so Kyiv can use the dozens of warplanes gifted by NATO members, Politico reported. But the outlet reported, citing three anonymous sources familiar with the situation, that Ukraine's Western allies cannot train all the pilots Kyiv is asking for. Politico reported on Wednesday that Ukraine is expected to field about 20 F-16 pilots this year and is asking the US if it can train an additional 30. Yet, the F-16 school in Tucson, Arizona, can at most accept only 12 Ukrainian trainees...
