Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed a bill on Friday to establish a commission with the power to remove local prosecutors who “refuse to uphold the law.” Kemp’s office said in a release that he established the Prosecuting Attorneys Qualifications Commission (PACQ) with his signature to serve as “a valuable oversight mechanism” for district attorneys and solicitors-general throughout the state. The office said the commission will ensure these officials fulfill their constitutional and statutory responsibilities.

  • Republicans tell the DOJ that Capitol rioters are facing 'unequal justice' in comparison to 'recent instances of mass unrest' including BLM and Antifa riots

A group of Republican senators wrote Attorney General Merrick Garland Monday to say January 6th rioters who are being prosecuted may be receiving 'unequal justice' – and called for similar treatment of those who clashed with police in protests sparked by the death of George Floyd last summer. The senators did not defend the rioters who stormed the Capitol during the electoral vote count – saying they 'fully support' prosecutions of those who took part. But they called into question what they cast as a disparity and demanded information from DOJ about tactics authorities used to run down Capitol rioters,...

"Either the Constitution matters and must be followed . . . or it is simply a piece of parchment on display at the National Archives." — Texas v. Pennsylvania et al. Texas v. Pennsylvania et al. did not deny setting rules for the 2020 election contrary to the Constitution. On December 10, 2020, the Supreme Court discounted that. By refusing to interfere as America’s ruling oligarchy serves itself, the court archived what remained of the American republic’s system of equal justice. That much is clear.

Today the blurb below the sidebar on Google's homepage includes a link which says, "Learn more about the history of racial injustice in America." The link promotes the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), a prisoner advocacy group founded by left-wing activist Bryan Stevenson. Following his graduation from Harvard Law School in 1985, Stevenson moved to Atlanta and joined the Southern Center for Human Rights, affiliated with Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Stevenson ran the Center's Montgomery branch, which he converted into EJI in 1989. One action Stevenson took with the center was signing a petition to free convicted...

A former Navy sailor who is one of five people to receive a pardon from President Donald Trump is planning to file a lawsuit against Obama administration officials, alleging that he was subject to unequal protection of the law. Specifically, Kristian Saucier, who served a year in federal prison for taking photos of classified sections of the submarine on which he worked, argues that the same officials who meted out punishment to him for his actions chose to be lenient with Hillary Clinton in her use of a private email server and handling of classified information. His lawyer, Ronald Daigle,...

Nearly a million poor people continue to be denied representation in the nation’s courts because legal aid clinics lack sufficient financing, a federally supported legal agency reported Tuesday. “There still exists a substantial justice gap in this country,” said Helaine M. Barnett, president of the nonprofit agency, the Legal Services Corporation, which receives appropriations from Congress to support more than 900 legal aid offices for low-income clients in civil cases across the country.

The Hate Crimes Prevention Act has gotten a thumbs-down from members of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, in the form of a letter to Senate leaders saying the proposed legislation "will do little good and a great deal of harm." "We regard the broad federalization of crime as a menace to civil liberties," the commissioners wrote. "There is no better place to draw the line on that process than with a bill that purports to protect civil rights." The commission, not known for being on the side of social conservatives on policy issues, has an ally in Sen. Jim...

The national obsession with celebrity collided head-on with the more serious issue of the equal application of justice on Friday, as a judge sent the socialite Paris Hilton back to jail some 36 hours after she was released for an unspecified medical problem. Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered Ms. Hilton to serve the rest of her sentence in a county lockup after the city attorney, whose office had prosecuted her, filed a petition asking that the sheriff’s department be held in contempt or explain why it had released her with an ankle monitor on Thursday, after she had served just...

The scariest part about the bill to expand federal hate crimes law isn’t the fact that it seeks to overturn the American principle of equal justice under the law, though that is a close second. The scariest part is that it now makes the federal government a participant in hundreds more state crimes, including every sexual assault case or domestic violence case. If there were any true liberals left (instead of just partisan anti-Republicans), they would be wary of this bill. That almost no one from the left is, is an example of the vacuum of traditional, left-of-center, intellectual thought....

During his campaign for Maricopa County Attorney, Andrew Thomas drew a line in the sand. In the greater Phoenix area, illegal immigration is a polarizing issue of immense proportions. His eye-catching, red and white, triangular campaign signs bellowed out, Stop Illegal Immigration. Opponents charged the office had no jurisdiction over the matter. But the pragmatic Thomas was resolute–and he triumphed, beating out five primary challengers and devastating his Democrat rival. As elected prosecutor, the...
