There is a significant positive association between dietary calcium intake and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), according to a study. Hongyuan Chang and colleagues used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted from 2003 to 2008 to examine the association between dietary calcium intake and the risk of BPH. A new study suggests that certain drugs commonly used to treat enlarged prostate may also decrease the risk for dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). This observational finding may seem surprising, but it mirrors previous work that links the drugs to a protective effect in another neurodegenerative condition—Parkinson's disease.
