WASHINGTON — The U.S. Army will decide whether it will further pursue a hybrid version of the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle in fiscal 2023, according to budget justification documents. The service has been working to develop a hybrid Bradley for several years and will wrap up the process through a series of tests in FY22. The funding for hybrid Bradley prototyping is not broken out of a combat vehicle prototyping line item of $164 million in FY22, according to the documents. The funding includes other efforts to examine advanced combat vehicle concepts, next-generation fire control technologies, XM913 chain gun development...

Underscoring its desire to keep U.S. aircraft carriers from the Persian Gulf, a senior Iranian military commander today announced his possible plan to ambush the American fleet. Chalk this one up to more bluster, or part of a mounting back and forth rhetoric headed nowhere good, either way - Tehran plans to rely on its subs. Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army's Self-Sufficiency Jihad, Rear Admiral Farhad Amiri told Fars that Iran has the finest electic diesel submarines in the world, and that while the U.S. has focused on Tehran's "astonishing surface capabilities," it has forgotten about the underwater threat....

You hardly need me to tell you that the only problem with electric cars is the treachery of their almost entirely useless batteries. Everything else about electric cars is pretty wonderful and we’ve known that electric is the way to go for more than a century. I like the idea of one; the smoothness, the futuristic whooshing noises and twinkling dashboard displays, the low maintenance, the mechanical simplicity. The internal combustion engine is a wonderful thing, but I suspect we love it for its foibles. Its gift of power is actually pretty feeble and fairly inflexible, so it needs gearing...
  • Death of McGuffey Readeres

McGuffey Readers were used widely in America until just after World War I. During this time, John Dewey, head of the Teachers College at Columbia University from 1904 to 1930, and his disciples began an all-out assault on traditional American education. Dewey was a humanist, a socialist, a statist, and an atheist who believed that "the State can do no wrong, for right is determined by what the State does." He looked with contempt at the 19th-century American educational system, because it stressed traditional values such as patriotism and reverence to God. Dewey believed that a public school should be...
