People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the White House to change its Easter egg roll into a Easter potato roll. In a letter to first lady Jill Biden, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk floated the idea, suggesting the switch from eggs to spuds. "Instead of promoting the deleterious factory farming and slaughter industries, will you please initiate the annual White House Potato Roll?" Newkirk asked in the letter, according to a PETA press release.

Plant-based meat substitute maker Beyond Meat said its revenue plunged 30.5% in the second quarter as consumer demand for its burgers, sausages and other products fell despite price cuts. A study has revealed new insights into how a diet rich in red meat increases risk for cardiovascular disease. In previous studies, Dr. Hazen found that a byproduct that forms when gut bacteria digest certain nutrients abundant in red meat and other animal products—called TMAO (trimethylamine N-oxide)—increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. New research finds that a plant-based diet can lower blood pressure even if small amounts of meat and dairy are also consumed. The study from the University of Warwick suggests that any effort to eat more plant-based foods can benefit blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attacks.
