President Trump plans to assign a New York billionaire to lead a broad review of American intelligence agencies, according to administration officials, an effort that members of the intelligence community fear could curtail their independence and reduce the flow of information that contradicts the president’s worldview. The possible role for Stephen A. Feinberg, a co-founder of Cerberus Capital Management, has met fierce resistance among intelligence officials already on edge because of the criticism the intelligence community has received from Mr. Trump during the campaign and since he became president. On Wednesday, Mr. Trump blamed leaks from the intelligence community for...

DynCorp International, the private military contractor, said on Monday it has agreed to sell itself to Cerberus Capital Management for $1.5 billion, as the private equity industry continues to return to its core business of deal-making. Cerberus will pay $17.55 a share for DynCorp, a 49 percent premium to Friday’s closing price of $11.75. DynCorp now has 28 days under a “go-shop” provision within the deal agreement to find a higher and better offer. While DynCorp has continued to win new contracts from the federal government, it has also been the subject of controversy over the years for its assignments...

Any air arm able to field 30 operational MiG-21s, 11 Douglas A-4K Skyhawks and which ordered up to 28 light combat jets would be placed well up the rankings in Flight International’s annual World Air Forces directory. It may come as a surprise, therefore, to learn that the aircraft listed above belong to a commercial company. Welcome to Draken International, the world’s largest private air force. Lakeland, Florida-based Draken formed in 2011, and has grown rapidly since then. Currently the company undertakes a range of training activities for the US military, but is also actively looking at opening a European...

Nov 29 (Reuters) - The Czech Republic is close to selling up to 28 subsonic fighter jets to a private company in the United States after years of failed attempts to offload the surplus planes, the Defence Ministry said on Friday. The U.S. company, Draken International, has placed a binding bid to buy 14 L-159 planes with an option for 14 more for a total price of up to 516 million crowns ($25.7 million). The government should decide about the contract by the end of the year. It could be completed in January 2014, the defence ministry said. "The Czech...

Saab J 35 Draken turns 50 By admin | March 19th, 2010 Training on the new J 35 Draken jet began in March 1960 at the F 13 Bråvalla wing in Norrköping. This means that fifty years have now passed since the Draken – considered by many as one of the world’s most beautiful planes – was deployed by the Swedish Air Force. The Draken, the first plane in Sweden to be designed for supersonic flight, was developed at the beginning of the 1950s. The first test flight was in 1955 and it broke the sound barrier for the first...

Saab recycles fighters as the Draken’s era ends By Graham Warwick Saab is claiming to be the first aircraft manufacturer to take responsibility for its product from cradle to grave, after the Austrian air force’s last J35 Draken fighters were returned to the Swedish company to be “dismantled environmentally”. Austria, which ordered 24 J35OEs 18 years ago, was the last country to operate the distinctive Draken. The last eight have now been transported back to Sweden, travelling by truck from Zeltweg airbase through Germany to Ljungbyhed. At Ljungbyhed, Saab Aerotech will remove the avionics and reclaim the precious metals, after...
