Lately we've been hearing on the news about the many Americans falling ill and/or dying in the Dominican Republic, namely in resort hotels. I've seen that there are daily flights to Punta Cana from Europe & Russia -- three a week from Dusseldorf, three a week from Moscow, daily direct flights from Heathrow and Gatwick in England, a few direct from Toronto and Montréal in Canada -- the list goes on and on. Question: Have there been any reports of ill or dead Europeans or foreigners in the Dominican Republic? Very suspect that the only victims are Americans. Conspiracy theory:...

The NBC investigation was broadcast at a time when they were a real news organization rather than a branch of the Democratic Party’s PR department, and provided internal State Department memos to back up claims of a massive Hillary Clinton elite pedophile ring cover-up. “Serious allegations concerning the State Department,” the NBC anchor announced, before launching into the disturbing details that mainstream media would be unable to report on in 2017. “There is an old saying in Washington that the cover-up is worse than the crime. But in this case both parts of it are disturbing,” Chuck Todd continued. “Allegations...

Cleopatra and Mark Antony were immortalised as two of history’s greatest lovers, but their final resting place has always been a mystery. Now archaeologists in Egypt are about to start excavating a site that they believe could conceal their tombs. Zahi Hawass, director of Egypt’s Superior Council for Antiquities, said yesterday that there was evidence to suggest that Cleopatra and Mark Antony were buried together in the complex tunnel system underlying the Tabusiris Magna temple, 17 miles from the city of Alexandria. The dig, which begins next week, could reveal answers to the many myths surrounding the pair — including...

In the U.S., today is "Columbus Day". Not much is done to celebrate it, although most schools and government jobs have the day off. It occurred to me that in part, it is due to Spain and Queen Isabella, Christopher Columbus and the discoveries of the New World that has led most of us to even be interested in this site. Just think of how many millions of people speak Spanish now around the world as a result of this discovery. When you think of most of the continent of South America, Central America, Cuba, Puerto Rico, The Dominican Republic,...

In a move that promises to turn the Dominican immigrant community in New York City into a powerful electoral force in its homeland, the Dominican Government is poised to grant its citizens abroad the right to vote from polling places where they live. While planeloads of Dominicans have routinely flown home from New York City to vote in presidential elections, their numbers have been too tiny to make an impact. This move, however, would instantly give the Dominican community in New York City the second-largest concentration of votes in any Dominican election, exceeded only by Santo Domingo, the capital.

NEW YORK – New York is shaping up to become a swing state in this year’s presidential election -- not in the presidential election between Barack Obama and the all-but-confirmed Republican nominee Mitt Romney, but the one in the Dominican Republic. Thanks to a law passed in 1997, expatriate Dominicans no longer have to fly to the country’s capital of Santo Domingo to vote in presidential elections. Dominicans voted locally for the first time in 2004 and tens of thousands of Dominican expatriates registered to vote for the 2012 contest – making New York one of the island nation’s most...

A Hispanic principal is systematically booting white, Jewish and older teachers from his Midtown high school, current and former staffers allege in lawsuits. “I think he hates us,’’ Peter Cohn, a former teacher at the HS of Art and Design, said of the school’s principal, Manuel Ureña. A Manhattan federal suit filed by teacher Todd Young claims Ureña, who is of Dominican heritage, initiated a mass faculty replacement at the school after being appointed principal in 2016. Young’s suit accuses Ureña of trumping up disciplinary and performance complaints against teachers to clear them out. “Since Principal Ureña has arrived at...

Nearly all of the criminal illegal and legal immigrants incarcerated in American prisons derive from six countries in Central and South America. The newest Government Accountability Office (GAO) report reveals how mass immigration to the United States from primarily Central America is leading to a booming foreign incarcerated population from the region. Between Fiscal Year 2011 and 2016, about 91 percent of all criminal illegal and legal immigrants in federal U.S. prisons were nationals from Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Colombia, and Guatemala. There are now close to 40,000 criminal illegal and legal immigrants incarcerated in federal prisons across...
