Lately we've been hearing on the news about the many Americans falling ill and/or dying in the Dominican Republic, namely in resort hotels. I've seen that there are daily flights to Punta Cana from Europe & Russia -- three a week from Dusseldorf, three a week from Moscow, daily direct flights from Heathrow and Gatwick in England, a few direct from Toronto and Montréal in Canada -- the list goes on and on.
Question: Have there been any reports of ill or dead Europeans or foreigners in the Dominican Republic? Very suspect that the only victims are Americans.
Conspiracy theory: Might Cuba be sabotaging DR tourism? **Readjusting tin-foil hat**
Thoughts?
Could just be crazy people like the cult in Japan. Or one crazy guy who hates white people. Too soon to think it’s a conspiracy of some sort.

Cuba taking out revenge with a few bottles of poisoned booze and soft drinks. Cheap way to strike fear into the yankee. A few well paid maids—and instant crisis. Few Americans come—DR Government falls to Communists and Cuba takes over! Maybe Iran is paying for this plot?
Why would anyone from a civilized country travel to these places. Rule of thumb: “ If you can’t drink the tap water, don’t go there.”
Me, I would be happy to travel the US and see the un-touristy rural stuff. Even if I lived to be 100, I'd never see it all.
Yup. Wifey and I traveled Europe, Oz and some So. American countries. in our careers. Now, we just visit America’s state parks. Keeping the money domestic and it’s safer.
They are dying from counterfeit liquor... probably coming from Russia...lol
It is not economic to bring counterfeit liquor that far. The whole point for it is to make it cheap so it has to be local. If the problem was methanol poisoning which is common with shoddily brewed moonshine it would be two blind victims per fatality.
I haven’t heard anything like that so far.
Also I haven’t heard about any Russians who were poisoned at Dominicans.
There is a gynormous Turkish tourist and airline lobby in Russia and very jealous over the fact that someone might want to take vacations elsewhere. If anything even minor happens to a Russian tourist anywhere but Turkey they make sure it is immediately all over the media in the most grim tones.
