Firefighting pilots in Western Colorado have a new facility. The new Grand Junction Interagency Air Center will be dedicated Tuesday at Walker Field Airport. The 92-hundred-square-foot facility serves as headquarters for heavy air tankers, pilots, smokejumpers, dispatchers and administrators. The air center serves as a base for fighting fires in parts of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico and Arizona. It has six full-time employees and 30 seasonal workers. Last year the center responded to about two-thousand incidents.

Six women dispatchers have filed a civil lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the Delaware County 9-1-1 Center, saying they were subjected to groping, racial harassment and gossip. One said,"It's like Pee-Wee's Playhouse." Another called it a Romper Room. A seventh woman may join them in the suit. They are seeking a $1,000,000 each in damages. Sounds as though they may have a case. If found guilty, the perpetrators should be punished. However, taxpayers of Delaware County are innocent of playing in the 9-1-1 Romper Room and should not be made to pay...
