As I read about funding over various budget items, I wonder if legislators really understand what's important anymore. Debating financing over community centers, historical societies and theaters seems quaint. By comparison, losing focus on real priorities, squandering precious tax dollars and incurring trillions of dollars of debt will eventually destroy our country. How seriously, after all, can one take a report on the ostensible threat of violent “right-wing extremism” that begins by admitting that it has no “specific information” to support the conclusion that the threat in question even exists? A report from Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security is entitled "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment." It appears that only Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs finds nothing wrong the DHS report on conservative terrorist threats. The report speculated that everyone from committed second amendment proponents to returning veterans were potential domestic terror threats. The report was very long on speculation and very short on any data or facts that make these threats any more serious than any threat dreamed up by anyone anywhere in any situation.

The recently released Department of Homeland Security assessment of rightwing extremism represents an alarming politicization of that huge federal agency.
