De Niro Has Role in NYC Trans Fat Debate NEW YORK -- Days after city health officials proposed outlawing trans fats in eateries, Mayor Michael Bloomberg defended the ban and tried to drag Robert De Niro into the debate because the actor's restaurants do not use the man-made oil. De Niro, an owner and investor in several culinary hotspots, went to City Hall on Thursday for a news conference related to his Tribeca Film Festival, but stayed for the mayor's general press briefing, at which Bloomberg was asked about the health department's trans fats ban. The proposal is raising questions...

A STAR of the mega-hit Sopranos TV drama, Lillo Brancato, has appeared in a New York court facing a murder charge. Brancato, 29, and co-defendant Steven Armento, 48, were charged with second-degree murder over the death of an off-duty police officer last month. Mr Armento, who allegedly pulled the trigger, was also charged with first-degree murder. Brancato entered the court in handcuffs as dozens of police officers and media looked on, Associated Press reported. Both men have denied the charges. The parents of the victim, Daniel Enchautegui, attended the proceedings in the Bronx court. According to the police case, Mr...

LONDON (Reuters) - Mobsters in the 1990 film "Goodfellas" have beaten a fear of heights in "Vertigo" and the great white shark of "Jaws" to help the Martin Scorsese film clench the mantle of greatest movie of all time in a survey of UK film experts. Goodfellas, which featured Ray Liotta, Robert de Niro and an Oscar winning supporting role from Joe Pesci, topped the list of 100 movies in a survey of film critics by Total Film. "Goodfellas has everything, in terms of its technical brilliance, its huge influence on modern film-making and its spikiness and rewatchability," Total Film...

Who do you think is the better actor? I just had to post this - I saw almost all of the movies of both actors and I for one cannot decide who's the more crazier, the more talented, or the more scarier of the two. Me? I have to concede that Pacino would get the edge. Pacino bested DeNiro in "Heat", and he was in the original "Godfather." But DeNiro made more movies - and some of his characters would give Pacino the run for his money (and no, DeNiro STILL couldn't carry Robert Mitchum's role in "Cape Fear", IMO)

Robert De Niro and American Express are being criticized for a new 30-second TV ad airing in the U.S. and the U.K. which includes shots of the now barren site of the World Trade Center. In the ad, directed by Martin Scorsese, De Niro walks through New York, referring to "My East .. my West Side." When he arrives at Ground Zero, he remarks, "My heartbreak." (The spot's tagline is: "My life. My card.") Brand Republic, an online publication covering advertising and marketing, said that the spot is drawing flak for exploiting the 9/11 tragedy.

THE Hollywood star Robert De Niro asked for his Italian citizenship to be put on hold yesterday so as not to offend outraged Italian-Americans who say his gangster roles show them in a bad light. De Niro’s request came after he refused to accept the city of Milan’s highest honour and failed to show up at a press conference in Rome to promote his Tribeca movie company. His snub of the Milan award led its mayor, Gabriele Albertini, to label him "bad mannered" after he showed up an hour late for the ceremony and then declined the gold medal. The...

Quote from Robert DiNiro from "What I've Learned" in the January issue of Esquire Magazzine: The hardest thing about being famous is that people are always nice to you. You're in a conversation and everybody's agreeing with what you're saying—even if you say something totally crazy. You need people who can tell you what you don't want to hear.
