But the Republican is close on the incumbent's heels as far as individual contributions go. Republican 13th District congressional candidate Dee Adcock kept close on the heels of Democratic incumbent Allyson Y. Schwartz when it came to raising individual campaign contributions over the last quarter. However, the three-term incumbent financially clobbered the political novice in securing checks from special interest groups. The campaign committee for Adcock, an Abington businessman, raised $147,630 in contributions from July 1 through Sept. 30, according to its campaign expense report filed last Friday. Of the $147,630, $135,410 came from individual contributors while another $12,120 came...

Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) dropped out of the race for governor Thursday, drastically shuffling the political landscape and effectively making state Attorney General Tom Corbett the GOP’s presumptive nominee. Gerlach’s made his announcement in a statement late Thursday afternoon as rumors of his impending withdrawal swirled among party insiders. While there was widespread speculation that he would seek reelection to Congress, his four paragraph statement only alluded to a vow to “continue public service.” “I entered the race for Governor in order to continue my public service, put forth new ideas for creating jobs, protecting our taxpayers, families and seniors...

Listening to the debate on the floor today, it was clear that Democrats considered it a moral and ideological obligation to pass this bill—consequences be damned. The leadership is congratulating itself now—Pelosi is already the greatest speaker of all time apparently—but there's a tough rough ahead in the Senate. Pelosi could lose 39 votes. Reid can't lose any. Passage in the House definitely creates more pressure on Reid to get it done, but the slender margin—despite the size of the Democratic majority in the House and all the arm-twisting and deal-making (what did Cao get?)—has to make Senate moderates even...

No longer content to stand on the sidelines, the Republican hopes to battle Allyson Schwartz in November. First of three profiles of the candidates for the 13th Congressional District Republican nomination. Dee Adcock last spring would sit in his Abington home, talking to the television and griping about the federal bailout of the car industry and "so-called" reform of the health care industry. "As I see it, if you think government will solve all your problems, you are sadly mistaken," explained Adcock. "These programs went against all my core beliefs, ones instilled in me by my parents and ones that...

Montgomery County Republicans on Monday night tapped an Abington businessman to carry their party's standard in this year's effort to topple three-term Democratic incumbent Allyson Y. Schwartz from her 13th District congressional seat. With six candidates battling, it took some 300 GOP committee members and proxy voters to award their endorsement to Dee Adcock, 58, who heads one of the biggest independent swimming pool suppliers in the country. Adcock fought off a determined bid by Dr. Damian Dachowski, a 47-year-old dentist from Lower Moreland and a member of the county health board. While only one vote separated the pair in...
