Immigrant advocates say they’re making a last-ditch effort to push U.S. Sen. Scott Brown to support the "DREAM Act." A coalition of advocates, educators and religious leaders have scheduled a press conference Monday at Boston City Hall to pressure the Massachusetts Republican to vote for the federal proposal. It would allow some illegal immigrants to qualify for permanent legal residency by graduating from college or a trade school or by joining the military. The Senate is slated to vote on the measure this week. Brown has said that he opposes the bill and sees it as "amnesty."
  • Pulling The Plug?

Harry Brighouse hears some murmuring: So I hear (via a prominent member of the sane Republican faction) that the word on the right side of the street is that the Republican National Committee is about to pull the plug on its joint ads with the McCain campaign, and devote its resources instead to trying to save a couple of the senators who are at serious risk of losing their seats. Now this is gossip, albeit of the high class variety; take it with the requisite pinch of salt.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Barack Obama attracting 52% of the vote while John McCain earns 45%. This is the first update based entirely on interviews conducted after the second Presidential debate and it shows virtually no change. On Tuesday morning, just before the debate, Obama was leading 52% to 44%. In fact, the race has remained quite stable for more than two weeks. This is the sixteenth straight day that Obama’s support has ranged from 50% to 52% while McCain has been at 44% of 45% (see trends). Fifty-five percent (55%) believe Obama will...
  • Why McCain Is Still Able To Win

Thanks to everyone who has written in, I appreciate being able to make a difference. But I still hear a lot of worry and doubt from republicans about whether McCain can really win the election. This article is one reminder about why this race is still a very close race, and why you not only must not give up, but why you can make a big difference in this home stretch. I wrote Friday about the fact that in seven of the last eighteen presidential elections - 38.9% - the polls were wrong by a big margin on the race,...
  • Is Three Weeks Enough Time?

Yes, of course it is. Three weeks ago John McCain was ahead, and a furious attack on Sarah Palin was underway. And Americans were several trillion dollars richer. Our stocks will recover if the American economy, powered by democratic capitalism's relentless innovation and productivity, is allowed to work its magic again. That is the record of our often disparaged but inevitably triumphant attachment to economic liberty. The task for John McCain between now and the time the last vote is cast on November 4 is to speak this truth and articulate this record and thus help repair the damaged confidence...
  • John McCain's Weekly Radio Address

ARLINGTON, Va., October 11 /Standard Newswire/ --U.S. Senator John McCain's weekly radio address: DOWNLOAD THE AUDIO FILE HERE: www.johnmccain.com/downloads/101008_wra.mp3 Good morning. This is John McCain, speaking to you at the end of another week filled with troubling news about our economy. On Tuesday, Americans also had a chance to hear my opponent and me debate our very different plans to meet the crisis. We've had two debates now, with a third coming this Wednesday night. And I can't shake the impression that Barack Obama is trying so hard to exploit America's financial crisis that he hasn't really focused on how...

After moving slightly to McCain in recent days, we have moved North Carolina back to the Democrats this morning. The current count is Obama 353, McCain 185 with just over three weeks to go until Election 2008.
