Why McCain Is Still Able To Win

Thanks to everyone who has written in, I appreciate being able to make a difference. But I still hear a lot of worry and doubt from republicans about whether McCain can really win the election. This article is one reminder about why this race is still a very close race, and why you not only must not give up, but why you can make a big difference in this home stretch.

I wrote Friday about the fact that in seven of the last eighteen presidential elections - 38.9% - the polls were wrong by a big margin on the race, and so even a big lead for one candidate does not guarantee diddly. I have discussed the principles of statistics to show why the present polls have a critical flaw somewhere in their methodology, since the results are not in line with the confidence criteria. But there's another way to take apart a poll to see whether it is useful as a barometer for opinion.

The widest lead enjoyed by Obama in the major polls Friday, was the Gallup Daily Tracking Poll. Gallup has been in the business longer than anyone else still doing polls, so it appears reasonable to consider Gallup's reports to have solid credibility. The problem, of course, begins with the fact that so many other polls show the race being closer. But let's look at that Gallup poll to see if we can learn from it.

Not after that slobbering love note he read to Obama at the town hall meeting last night.

It’s like Rush says, we are going to have to drag this stiff across the finish line if we have any hope of saving America from Obama.

No he can’t.

But Obama can lose that is the only thing I think we have going for us right now.

ENOUGH!

CALLING OBAMA A RESPECTABLE FAMILY MAN THAT WE NEED NOT FEAR IS OUTRAGEOUS!

TAKING THE ABUSE AND INSULTS FROM OBAMA AND REFUSING TO FIGHT BACK IS OUTRAGEOUS!

WE’RE NOT TURNING THE WHITE HOUSE KEYS OVER TO BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA- NOT IF WE ON FR, RUSH, HANNITY AND FOX HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT!

FReep McCAIN/ MSM OUT.

HOW LONG CAN THEY IGNORE A MILLION EMAILS??

.

McCain is losing this campaign because he refuses to fight Obama and his lies, and dirty tactics such as ACORN voter fraud. He’s just been rolling over (or bending over, I should say) and accepting the abuse heaped upon him- and expecially Sarah Palin.

The anemic attempts by the McCain camp to fight back within the last few days just ain’t gonna get it.
He should have been hitting Obama back hard months ago.
He needs to get out there every day and FIGHT BACK.
Email Republican headquarters/McCain.

FReep ‘EM OUT!

CAN THEY IGNORE A MILLION EMAILS?

REMIND McCAIN THAT HE HAS AN OBLIGATION AS OUR CANDIDATE TO FIGHT BACK!
To h*ll with bipartisian BS!
To h*ll with PC!
To h*ll with ‘conducting a respectful campaign’as McCain has said, and vowed to do.

RESPECTFUL CAMPAIGNING WENT STRAIGHT OUT THE WINDOW WITH OBAMA’S NASTY, BRUTAL COMMENTS SUCH AS;
‘lipstick on a pig’ and ‘You can wrap AN OLD FISH in a piece of paper called change. It’s still going to stink after eight years.’

Take off the gloves, McCain!

Hit the Marxist/Muslim hard with Ayers, Acorn, Violation of Logan Act, abortion, 2nd admendment, Campaigning for Odinga!!
Get off the d*mned economy issue. State that Obama/Democrats/ACORN caused this meltdown. State McCain offered a proposal to avert the meltdown and GET OFF IT.
Obama is counting on keeping this going to take the spotlight off his sordid past and dirty dealings!
NOTHING is more important than waking America up to this Marxist/Muslim!! DO IT. EXPOSE HIM!

I’m trying to figure out how the DNC and other powers-that-be managed to bring this economic crisis so perfectly to a head one month out from the election.

One reason McCain can win is because there are 20+ days to heap the proper amount of responsibility on Obama and the democrats for the financial mess. Currently McCain is getting as much blame as posible. This can only go in one direction as more people are exposed to the Franks, Meeks, waters tape of the Dems praising Fannie Mae.

I also cannot fathom that McCain won’t do better than Gore or Kerry with women since Palin is on the ticket.

Several points:

1. Comparing one election to others is irrelevant. Each has its own unique problems, issues, and candidates.

2. Comparing poll numbers for the current election cycle to previous election cycles is irrelevant. Each has its own unique problems, issues, and candidates.

3. We still have a huge percentage of the population -- who will vote -- that only hear a few news clips here and there from the TV network and radio news. They are too busy getting to the grocery store, taking the kids to after school activities, etc. The Internet has increased the availability of raw, unfiltered news, and the number of people who get their news from the Internet is increasing; but still millions only catch the evening TV news.

4. Current events can have major impact. For example, in 04 Kerry was on his way to eeking out a win. But, the weekend prior to the election, bin Laden released a tape. That reminded enough voters of the treat of terrorism that they cast their vote against the Kerry and gave Bush an eeked out win.

5. The spinners will say their candidate is winning. Even if a poll shows 30%-70%, they will claim they are ahead. And the polls can be manipulated. Lies, damn lies, and statistics could be rewritten to be lies, damn lies, and polls. The polling organizations can manipulate the result by the way they form questions and by the way they get their poll-ees-- the ones they poll.

Notice how many, even on FR exhibit this:
6. Polls are not legitimately news. But news organizations use them, because they are so easy to manipulate. Thus, whenever a news organization wants to address an issue or campaign from a special perspective, they commission a poll -- with the intent of supporting their view. Then, they claim the poll and its results as news. [How convenient.]

[A few years ago, Bill O'Reilly had a poll on his website. The result was running 10-to-1 against O'Reilly's view of the topic. He had the poll pulled and claimed it had been hacked. (How convenient.) He never did put the poll back up -- on a secure website.]

I hope so. There is so much ACORN activity in PA where I live and recent story of over 50,000 of 250,000 registrations thrown out in Philly. That still leave 200,000!
Whoever wins PA wins the election. I have crunched various scenarios.
(BTW-Freeper since pre-2000,recent return from lurker-been following these things since 1960 when 6yrsold!)

I do hope so but in PA even with the thrown owns ACORN registrations still many abound. McCain would need a 3% win to overcome this.(BTW-Freeper since pre-2000 but have been lurking for years-officially returned now).
I have crunched numbers-whoever wins PA wins the election.

And, he's got to stop telling people, as in MN yesterday, that Obama is a good man & you don't need to be scared of him. I mean WTF?

What kind of candidate says crap like than inside of 30 days before the election when trying to fire up your base?

Jeff,

In the nine years I've been a freeper I've admired your posts and the stands that you've taken.

I will vote for McCain/Palin, obviously, as the only choice in this election.

But, I'm getting pretty darned depressed. I'm starting to channel that guy from the movie "Aliens."

"Were in some pretty $^!* now! Game over, man, Game over!"

You have been acting in cheerleading mode for the last several weeks. How do you do it, guy? How do you keep your hope up!

Our hope resides in the people themselves, through the means at hand (talk radio, email, blog, forums, word of mouth, etc.) and despite the MSM, revealing the extent of the corruption and then getting behind the most exciting and enthusiastic thing going in this entire election cycle...and perhaps in a generation.

...and that would be Sarah Palin. She needs to be blanketing the battleground states.

I'M VOTING FOR SARAH
