CHICAGO -- A northwest Indiana family is mourning their new puppy after it was killed in a botched kidnap-for-ransom plot. The cocker spaniel puppy, named Lucky, was in a relative's back yard when he suddenly disappeared. A few days later, the dognapper left a message demanding $10,000, or he would feed the small dog to his pit bulls. By the time the family arrived at the dognapping suspect's house, it was too late. The puppy was already battered and beaten, and later died. Police arrested 40-year-old Marc Czernik and are holding him in jail.
