CHICAGO -- A northwest Indiana family is mourning their new puppy after it was killed in a botched kidnap-for-ransom plot.
The cocker spaniel puppy, named Lucky, was in a relative's back yard when he suddenly disappeared.
A few days later, the dognapper left a message demanding $10,000, or he would feed the small dog to his pit bulls.
By the time the family arrived at the dognapping suspect's house, it was too late. The puppy was already battered and beaten, and later died.
Police arrested 40-year-old Marc Czernik and are holding him in jail.

This is just sick. I have raised animals for food, hunted and fished my whole life, and when I read about things like this I could cheerfully make this sick #$@& pay for the rest of his life. I don't know why, I have killed my fair share of warm fuzzy animals but doing that to a little puppy makes me want to hunt HIS ass with my dogs.

I'm amazed at the restraint of the police in cases like this.

I say reunite him with his beloved pitbulls -- after sewing raw meat into his underwear.

Sick. If we can't do anything stronger, lock him up for a very long time.

If that happend to my dog, I fear I'd be in the lock-up now. I hope the S.O.B. does some hard time.

I can't understand people who can let any animal suffer for any reason.....it's just evil.

Lucky in happier days.

I would like to know what the maximum penalty is. Because I think this guy should get it.

Had that been my cocker spaniel, Peggie, my advise would be "Mr. Czernik, give your soul to Jesus, because everything else belongs to me, when I am through, you will regret your birth"

My Cocker Spaniel puppy sez: "Terminate with extreme prejudice." Hopefully some fellow in prison will take care of delivering the punishment to this detritus.

The penalty should be tossing the guy in a cage with hungry wolves. If those canines are not available, felines such as tigers or lions would suffice.

Feed him to cats.
Cats "play" with their food before they eat it. And they don't play nice.
