A new bill in the Washington state Senate would allow alcohol sales in strip clubs. Dancers at a hearing on the measure seem to be all for it. “The time for a change in this industry is long overdue,” Sharla, one of the dancers who testified, said. Right now, only non-alcoholic beverages are served. Alcohol sales would bring a new source of revenue to the clubs, something the entertainers are all for. "It would take away a tool that abusive clubs use to put pressure on dancers,” Emily said. “It would make Washington clubs on par with other states where...

Boston -- A former pharmaceutical executive accused of joining in a scheme to bribe doctors into prescribing a powerful painkiller once gave a lap dance to a doctor the company was pressuring to get his patients on the drug, her onetime colleague said Tuesday. Jurors heard the testimony on the second day of the federal trial in Boston against Insys Therapeutics founder John Kapoor and four other former executives. They include Sunrise Lee, whom prosecutors have described as a former exotic dancer who was hired to be a regional sales manager even though she had no experience in the pharmaceutical...

A former Milwaukee Bucks cheerleader has filed a federal lawsuit accusing the NBA team of failing to pay her at least a minimum wage or overtime for her work. Lauren Herington, 22, was paid a flat rate of $65 for games, $30 for practice, and $50 for a special appearance. But her demanding schedule - which required up to 20 hours a week in the gym, 10 hours' practice a week, self-funded tanning sessions, and two-and-a-half hours' preparation before games - meant she would routinely earn as little as $3 an hour, less than half the $7.25 minimum wage.

U.S. District Judge Fred Biery has spoken. The Texas judge issued a ruling in the case he called "The Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Bikini Top v. the (More) Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Pastie." Yes, indeed. At issue was a strip club's request for a preliminary injunction that would block enforcement of a San Antonio ordinance requiring its dancers to wear bikini tops while entertaining. The club had asked that its employees be allowed to wear nipple-covering "pasties" instead. The fact that this case went to court is strange enough. But that seems downright pedestrian when compared with Judge Biery's hilarious ruling...

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- An Aboriginal-themed routine by two Russian ice dancers has stirred up a pre-Olympic controversy, with some indigenous Australians blasting the "rip off" of their culture and Canadian native leaders worrying about the insensitivity of the skaters. World champions Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin are doing an Aboriginal routine for their original dance -- complete with brown-toned costumes adorned with leaves and white Aboriginal-style markings. Their music includes a didgeridoo riff. In the original dance, couples can create any kind of dance that falls within an assigned theme. This year's theme is country/folk, and skaters are doing...

LAP dancers must pay VAT on their earnings from customers, a High Court judge ruled yesterday. The clubs where they perform are not liable for VAT, Mr Justice Mann said. He upheld an appeal by Spearmint Rhino Ventures, which operates a chain of “gentlemen’s clubs”, against a VAT tribunal decision that the firm was liable. He said the services in question were when a dancer provided private dances for a customer. “A fee of £10 is charged for a semi-nude dance; £20 is charged for a nude dance,” the judge said. “In addition to those services, the dancer and customer...

The NY times published a photo the other day which looked like they had airbrushed out a "microphone" which significantly changed the meaning of the photo. I wrote the following letter to their corrections department. The NY Times responded by sending me the photographers explanation which follows in the body of the comment below. "Dear editor: I think you owe your readers a correction and an apology for the altered picture on August 27, 2006 at http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2006/08/27/world/27morale2.html which suggestively led your readers to believe that it showed a "stripper" beginning her "strip" to entertain our troops. That is a misrepresentation....
