Customs agents have seen all sorts of things come through travelers' baggage. And what they seized from two women at Washington Dulles International Airport last month may take the cake. On January 29, two women arrived from Mongolia. Customs and Border Protection officers sent them for a routine agriculture examination. What was found inside might turn your stomach. The women had a combined 42 pounds of horsemeat concealed inside juice boxes. That includes 13 pounds of horse genitals that one of the women claimed were for medicinal purposes.

A Jewish student from Kansas was denied entry into Britain for a summer job several weeks ago—apparently due to a customs agent’s anti-Semitism. After being detained for more than nine hours, he was put back on a plane to the United States by customs officials. During that time he was never told why he was being denied entry. According to the Kansas City Jewish Chronicle, the British man who had offered Louis “Chip” Cantor summer work experience, Kevin Shilling, said the British border agent he spoke to in his attempt to get Cantor admitted into Britian made more than one...

The U.S. government on Thursday notified 60,000 federal workers responsible for securing borders and facilitating trade that they will face furloughs due to government-wide spending cuts. Customs and Border Protection said it expects furloughs and other austerity will cause delays at ports of entry, including international arrivals at airports, and reduce the number of border patrol officers on duty at any one time. …

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Talk-show host Rush Limbaugh is canceling his international travel plans in the near future, saying he doesn't want to be "framed" by U.S. Customs officials after last week's incident when he was detained for more than three hours for possession of Viagra prescribed in his doctor's name. "It takes one time, and I've got red flags up, and I'm not going to put myself in the position of being framed," Limbaugh said today on his national radio broadcast. "With all this partisanship that's out there, I'm just not going to make it easy for people...

Customs agent let drugs slip through Case is example of border official lured to 'dark side' by easy money By JAMES PINKERTON Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle PROGRESO - With surveillance cameras secretly rolling, U.S. Customs Inspector Lizandro Martinez greeted the driver of a truck that pulled into his inspection lane at 5:30 a.m. The driver, a pal from the inspector's days as a police officer more than a decade earlier, told Martinez that the cargo he'd been expecting was right behind his truck. And sure enough, a white Ford pickup appeared. It carried 1,635 pounds of marijuana, packed and ready...
