Hartford -- A new TV ad by Republican U.S. Senate nominee Linda McMahon gleefully points out a gaffe in her opponent’s latest ad that confused a diesel submarine of the Royal Norwegian Navy with a Groton-built sub. In the ad by the Democrat Chris Murphy, a narrator tells how “the Connecticut jobs Chris Murphy’s helped create...launched new subs in Groton.” Meanwhile, a short video clip of a surfaced submarine flashes on the screen. Republican hopes to regain a majority in the Senate were given a boost by a recent U.S. Chamber of Commerce poll that show the tight race is led by their candidate. Politico reports that Republican Linda McMahon leads Democrat Chris Murphy by 3 points in the Connecticut Senate race, 42 to 39, based on the Chamber poll of 600 likely voters. About 14 percent of poll participants claimed to remain undecided.

Polls closed in Connecticut at 8 p.m. as voters cast ballots in the state's primary elections Tuesday. The Associated Press delcared Linda McMahon the winner of the GOP Senate race over Chris Shays about 40 minutes after the polls closed.
