The 6.4 magnitude earthquake was reported around 2:40 a.m. about eight miles southwest of Ferndale in Humboldt County. For millions of people near the epicenter, an alert was sent out to their phones up to 10 seconds prior the dramatic shaking. The alert notification reads “drop, cover, and hold on.” It was sent out to an estimated 3 million Android phone users automatically through a partnership between California and Google. A quarter-million people received the warning through the MyShake app, a state-sponsored app developed by UC Berkeley that is available for download in the Android and iOS app stores.

Warring Vladimir Putin is healthy, sane and 'in better shape than ever', his closest European ally has claimed - on the same day he reportedly fired a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile in Ukraine, in a terrifying first. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko - dubbed the last dictator of Europe - made the assessment of Putin's mental health during an interview with Japanese television channel TBS. -snip- But insisting the 69-year-old is in top condition, Lukashenko told his Japanese interviewer: 'The West, and you, should get this stupidity, this fiction out of your heads. 'Putin is absolutely fit, he's in better shape than...

At her concerts, Linda Ronstadt used to imagine that audience members were whispering to one another about what a terrible singer she was. She was an unusual rock star in several ways. Few others were as careful about keeping their distance from the insanity, and fewer turned away from arena adulation and the pop charts to do standards, operetta, and Mexican folk songs. Ronstadt was the most spectacular female singer of the rock era, her voice a thing of astonishing clarity and power and color. Due respect is here, in the documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice. What...

I told you folks the Kavanaugh gig would not end well for the Democrat Party...so, The Democrats see the Mid-Term Elections sliding away from them and they have called out to their low life buddies in the NY Times to come up with something on Trump to save the day. Sorry, Dems, this Trump tax gig will not work well for you either. I can assure you, that you folks will sink even lower politically, as you grab out for a life raft to save you politically. You notice and see how those thousands of folks are pouring out to...

It started on Twitter, as these things often do. A then-14-year-old Weezer fan named Mary (@weezerafrica) began a public campaign to persuade the alt-rock band to cover the 1982 Toto hit “Africa.” For months, she kept at it, tweeting at the band’s members: When would they bless the rains down in Africa? Weezer eventually complied, and were shocked when their cover hit No. 1 on iTunes. One of the internet’s few universally beloved comfort food songs, “Africa” is the gift that keeps giving: Weezer hasn’t had a hit this big in almost a decade. The band is currently in the...

“With slightly increased oversight in a state-by-state, case-by-case basis, children might not slip through the cracks,” said Hannah Ettinger, who studies incidents of violence against or perpetrated by home school students for the Coalition for Responsible Home Education. The group advocates for increased oversight of home-schooled students, such as requiring that each be registered and meet yearly with a certified teacher for annual testing and with a doctor for a physical checkup — both of whom would be required to report to authorities if they suspected a child’s physical or mental health or welfare were in jeopardy. Texas’ regulations are...

In a plot Tom Clancy might have dreamed up, an IT staffer who’d worked for Democrats in Congress was arrested by federal officials and charged with bank fraud. Fox News has reported that officers and agents from the U.S. Capitol Police, the FBI and Customs and Border Protection, were involved in the arrest of Imran Awan at Dulles International Airport not far from Washington, D.C., as he tried to fly away to Pakistan. Awan has pleaded not guilty to bank fraud, but his strange case has all the feeling of the opening scene of a movie that might soon include...

"From the beginning the focus has been on the wrong thing, on the wrong people. The Democrats and Hillary Clinton and the media have concocted a scandal," said Mark Levin as he opened his radio show Friday night. "A scandal that has suggested that Donald Trump and his surrogates were colluding with the Russians during the 2016 election. That is a truly incredible allegation with no facts whatsoever." Now, after coming up short time and time again in proving such a scandal, the Left has used the firing of former FBI director James Comey to ratchet up more accusations. Levin...

As part of its January 2017 issue exploring our evolving understandings and definitions of gender, National Geographic is featuring nine-year-old transgender rights activist Avery Jackson on its cover—the first time a trans person has made the cover of the magazine. Jackson rose to stardom last year when she began documenting her transition with “Avery Chats,” a series of YouTube videos describing how she came to understand her identity at such a young age and eventually came out to her parents as trans. “When I was born, doctors said I was a boy, but I knew in my heart I was...

When Donald Trump mucks things up, the first person to let him know is usually Republican Party boss Reince Priebus. Almost every day, Trump picks up his cell phone to find Priebus on the line, urging him to quash some feud or clarify an incendiary remark. The Wisconsin lawyer has been a dutiful sherpa to the Manhattan developer, guiding him through the dizzying altitude of the presidential race and lobbying the GOP to unite behind a figure who threatens its future.

Hillary Clinton has not yet declared her bid for the Democratic presidential nomination — but you wouldn't know it from The New York Times Magazine to be published on Sunday. The cover story, titled "Planet Hillary," is illustrated by a graphic showing a solar system with a huge planet at the center which features Clinton's smiling face. The teaser for the article by Amy Chozik, a national political reporter for the Times, reads: "The gravitational pull of a possible 2016 campaign is bringing all the old Clinton characters into her orbit. Can she make the stars align, or will chaos...

Well, just listen. Lyrics by the Clovertons I've heard about this baby boy Who's come to earth to bring us joy And I just want to sing this song to you It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth--- The minor fall, the major lift-- With every breath I'm singing Hallelujah.. Hallelujah... A couple came to Bethlehem Expecting child, they searched the inn To find a place for You were coming soon There was no room for them to stay? So in a manger filled with hay God's only Son was born, oh Hallelujah... Hallelujah... The shepherds left their flocks...

The story is sweeping the Internet: President Barack Obama is trying to emasculate male Marines by making them wear a girly cover with their famed dress uniforms. The only problem? It’s not true. First, some background: Men and women in the Marine Corps currently wear different types of covers as part of their dress and service uniforms. The manufacturer of the women’s “bucket cover” – which has a distinctly different shape than the men’s cover – is going out of business and will not continue to make the cap, according to the Marine Corps. The Marine Corps also has been...

Barack Obama wants the US Marines to start wearing girly unisex hats. The New York Post reported: A change to the Marine Corps’ uniform hats could take the hard-nosed Leathernecks from the Halls of Montezuma to the shops of Christopher Street. Thanks to a plan by President Obama to create a “unisex” look for the Corps, officials are on the verge of swapping out the Marines’ iconic caps with a new hat that some have derided as so “girly” that they would make the French blush. “We don’t even have enough funding to buy bullets, and the DoD is pushing...
