Amazing cover of Simon & Garfunkel's beloved song "America".

Yes took a beautiful simple song, and made it into a hedonistic mess.
I kinda dig it.
Poor, Diana Ross, tried the same type of concert in Central Park a couple of years later and it was rained out, by a severe thunderstorm.
Overblown, and totally the wrong approach for such an introspective song.

I’ve always loved both versions, but I grew up hearing Yes’s version first before I ever heard the original.
Progressive bands liked to take simple melodies and orchestrate them. I like the theory behind it. Rock music in America came from American music, like the blues. They tried to make a version of rock from European music, namely classical.

To each his own. I thought it was ambitious. Not for everybody’s taste. I still like the original better, but can appreciate this version.
Mmmmm...prog music hedonism.
Unlistenable version. A bunch of dudes strutting their riffs. Probably took them 15 minutes total to create and perform. Some will like it (some bands do covers of “Don’t worry Kyoko, Mama’s only looking for her hand in the snow” by Yoko Ono, for example) . “Amazing” like Al Yankovic doing Ave Maria.
("Sounds of Silence" was the first album I bought with my paper route money - man, that was a looog time ago)
Being a Yes fan l kinda like it but… l think you are right they took a beautiful song and made into one that is not.
I’ll listen later.
I guess you have to be a Yes fan. This was a 'bonus track' on my CD of the Fragile Album. I liked it, though it definitely has only a passing resemblance to the original.
What do you think?
Oh my that is bad, Wall of Voodoo should have stayed a one hit wonder with “Mexican Radio”.
I just listened to it.
Terrible. Annoying.
Sorry.
Listened to their rendition of "Southern Cross" and it was better than the original CSNY version.
Plenty more there and they’re all great.
