OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Police arrested scores of demonstrators and towed away vehicles Friday in Canada’s besieged capital, and a stream of trucks started leaving under the pressure, raising authorities’ hopes for an end to the three-week protest against the country’s COVID-19 restrictions. By evening, at least 100 people had been arrested, mostly on mischief charges, and nearly two dozen vehicles had been towed, including all of those blocking one of the city’s major streets, authorities said. One officer had a minor injury, but no protesters were hurt, interim Ottawa Police Chief Steve Bell said. Police “continue to push forward...

Private military contractors who do secret missions for Russia flew into Venezuela in the past few days to beef up security for President Nicolas Maduro. Russia, which has backed Maduro’s socialist government to the tune of billions of dollars, this week promised to stand by him after opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself president with Washington’s endorsement. Yevgeny Shabayev, leader of a local chapter of a paramilitary group of Cossacks with ties to Russian military contractors, said he had heard the number of Russian contractors in Venezuela may be about 400. Shabayev said the contingent flew to Venezuela at the...

A biker with a "big yellow helmet" who appeared to be in charge pulled out a "long, 'Dirty Harry'-type pistol" and fired the first shot in the May 2015 Twin Peaks biker brawl, a former Twin Peaks employee testified Tuesday. While testimony thus far has not revealed who was wearing the "big yellow helmet," previous video and photographic evidence presented by the state show Jacob Carrizal leading a band of Bandidos into Twin Peaks while riding a shiny blue motorcycle and wearing a yellow helmet. Also, a CNN special on the one-year anniversary of the shootout featured an interview with...

Moscow, May 24, Interfax - Stavropol Cossacks will visit ancient Christian city Maaloula in Syria to study historical sites in the Aramaic language. "After debauchery committed by the terrorists we consider it necessary to go there and start working over monuments of learning in the Aramaic language, the language of Jesus, which terrorists were not able to demolish. Besides, we want to write down the dialogues with local residents, who speak the modern dialect of Aramaic," deputy ataman of the Stavropol City Cossack Society Dmitry Tarasov was quoted as saying by the Izvestia paper on Wednesday. Then the documents will...

A judge on Friday effectively postponed the start of any Twin Peaks biker trials in McLennan County until after the federal trial of Bandidos national leaders in San Antonio or until federal prosecutors agree to share evidence with McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna. Judge Matt Johnson of Waco’s 54th State District Court granted a motion to delay the June 5 trial of Kyle Smith, 50, an air-conditioning technician from Kilgore and member of the Cossacks motorcycle group. Johnson’s ruling comes in the wake of Reyna filing a letter he got last month from U.S. Attorney Richard Durbin, of San...

The evidence in the May 17, 2015 Twin Peaks incident is voluminous. So, I put together some important video clips that tell the story in the clearest manner. I then attached the audio from the ONLY recorded police interview of a COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT WITNESS. He describes what he saw, including the fact that a Cossack pulled a gun first, Cossacks fired first, and the police fired on all of the bikers in what he describes as “automatic gun fire”. Here are some additional facts from the evidence: 1) In August 2014, 3 Cossacks went to police complaining that they were...

The political and military environment in Kazakhstan is deteriorating due to the efforts of pro-Russian activists. The activities of pro-Russian movements in Kazakhstan indicate a tremendous growth of the threat to the acting authority, which emerged in the last 18 months. Currently, Kazakhstan is ready for the repeat of the “Crimean scenario”. It could be triggered by domestic problems in the Russian Federation or a sudden change in the state regime of Kazakhstan. Such threats to Kazakhastan are driven both by its citizens, who are coming home having obtained combat experience in Donbas region, and the increased activities of Cossack...

Rattle Can was a real person. His family wants you to know that. He was a "big ol' bear" of a man, tall and strong and slightly rotund, with a long, ginger beard hiding a strong-jawed, handsome face. His given name was Jacob Lee Rhyne, though most people called him Jake. He could come off gruff, and he didn’t watch his language. Rhyne loved his kids and sports and Miller Lite. He worked at the same place for 19 years, pouring iron at a foundry. You couldn't drag him away from his hometown, Ranger, Texas, a decrepit place nearly a...

Three top leaders of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club, considered an outlaw gang by U.S. authorities, have been arrested on charges of racketeering, assault and drug distribution that could bring up to life in prison, prosecutors said on Wednesday. The arrests are expected to send shock waves through the Bandidos, who have about 1,500 to 2,000 members in the United States, prosecutors said. The Bandidos, one of the biggest U.S. motorcycle gangs, with branches overseas, are suspected of being involved in a shootout last May in Waco, Texas, between rival gangs that killed nine people. The three named in a grand...

ABILENE, Texas - A jury found Jack Lewis, the former president of the Abilene chapter of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club, not guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon late Wednesday afternoon. Lewis, 48, was on trial for stabbing Timothy Shayne Satterwhite, who is a member of the Cossacks Motorcycle Club. It's all related to a fight in the Logan's Roadhouse parking lot in November of 2013. Wednesday afternoon Lewis took the stand in his own defense. He said he never stabbed anyone. A fellow Bandido MC member, Wesley Mason, testified he stabbed Satterwhite and another member of the Cossacks...

Welcome to the camp that trained 7-year-olds to be defenders of the Russian homeland Jack Sommer and Harrison Jacobs Oct. 23, 2015, 1:13 PM There was once a military training camp for the young in Europe, known as the Crimea Sich, that took place every year in August for two weeks. It was located in Crimea, a peninsula right below Ukraine and Russia. The Cossacks — an ethnic minority of East Slavic people who in 2014 helped Russia annex Crimea from Ukraine — would send kids as young as 7 to military training camps to learn how to become "defenders...

The band of brothers who voluntarily patrol the US-Mexico border: Heavily armed vigilantes led by a veteran dubbed 'Nailer' act as the final guard against what they call an 'immigrant invasion' Dressed in camouflage gear and wielding heavy machine guns, these men look like they are off to war. But while the pictures appear to show this band of brothers patrolling a conflict zone, they are actually guarding the border between the US and Mexico. The ‘watchmen’ of The Arizona Border Recon - led by the group's chief 'Nailer' - protect the border near the Mexican town of Nogales, with...

A Cossack organization denied that one of its members was responsible for the removal of a 100-year-old bas relief depicting the mythical demon Mephistopheles from a historic building in St. Petersburg after a man claiming responsibility for the act said he was a member of the group. In a letter sent to the editors of St. Petersburg news site Fontanka.ru, a man named Denis Gorchin — the self-described former leader of a group known as the Cossacks of St. Petersburg — said his organization was responsible for the removal of the bas relief from the building on Lakhtinskaya Street, which...

What was initially reported as a motorcycle gang shootout that killed nine and wounded 18 to which police heroically responded last month in Waco, TX, at the Twin Peaks restaurant seems a bit more complicated, and bit worse for the cops, than that as further details have been revealed. This week one of the people arrested at the scene, Matthew Clendennen, filed a lawsuit directly against the officers involved in the incident (Manuel Chavez by name, the others as John and Jane Does) as well as the city. From that suit filing, in which Mr. Clendennen presents himself as a...

WACO — Richie was the first to die, then Diesel, then Dog. Whatever else they were in life, the men with the biker nicknames were Cossacks, loud and proud and riders in a Texas motorcycle gang. And that’s what got them killed, shot to death in a brawl with a rival gang in the parking lot of a Texas “breastaurant” that advertised hot waitresses and cold beer. “I saw the first three of our guys fall, and we started running,” said their brother-in-arms, another Cossack, who said he was there a week ago when the shooting started at the Twin...

Despite the characterization by police that the afternoon gathering at a Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco, Texas that led to Sunday’s bloody shooting incident was a gathering of criminal biker gangs with violent intent, the meeting appears to have been a legitimate, organized gathering of motorcycle riders meeting to discuss political issues. The group that met was the Texas Confederation of Clubs and Independents (CoC&I) and a look at that group’s website and history gives a very different impression of the group’s purpose and goals than what has been said repeatedly by Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton.
