CORVALLIS – Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman has released the name of the Missoula man killed Monday morning during an apparent burglary at a private residence between Corvallis and Victor. Tobias Ian Bishop, 39, was shot by the homeowner about 4 a.m. after entering the residence through a window that he had broken. Bishop had a long criminal history and was wanted on a warrant in Flathead County, Hoffman said. Bishop had apparently burglarized at least one other home in the vicinity prior to being shot, and had already gathered several chainsaws and other items near his van. According to...

tl;dr: Sued Corvallis PD officer in federal court for unlawful detainment, won. This post has been on my mind for some time, and finally I feel that I can share it with you all, as the dismissal of the case was filed today. As you may or may not remember, on October 26, 2011 (ironically the 10th anniversary of the U.S. PATRIOT Act being signed into law) I was illegally detained by Corvallis PD while I was checking my mail. At the time I didn't say much about it because I didn't want my version of the events to be...

When Alan Ayres set out to construct a second-story addition to a downtown building for a new brewpub, he figured it would be a fairly straightforward job. But after his second plan review, he got an official letter. Because his design for a rooftop deck jutted out several feet over the public right of way, he was going to need special permission from the city — and a lease to use public airspace.

SEATTLE, Nov. 28, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Washington State chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA) today called on the FBI and state law enforcement authorities to step up protection for the region's Muslim community after an intentionally-set fire damaged a mosque in Oregon. Fire officials say the Sunday morning blaze damaged the Salman Al-Farisi Islamic Center in Corvallis, Ore., a house of worship once attended by a recently-arrested terror suspect. The FBI is investigating the incident. Some columns write themselves. Some are a struggle and leave me confused, conflicted and a little angry. This is one of those. It started out as a tongue-in-cheek look at the recent action by the city council in Berkeley, Calif., to oust the U.S. Marine Corps recruiting office and brand the Marines “uninvited and unwelcome intruders.” I planned to compare the situation in that strange city with our fairly-liberal-but-not-ridiculously-so approach here in Corvallis. Then I started doing research. I learned that an anti-military organization has access to our high school students equal to that of the U.S. Armed Forces. The...
