Just got a new laptop and had to re-install my anti-virus software from Computer Associates. Couldn't figure out how to turn off the dang parental controls. Every site I clicked on was blocked. Free Republic was blocked and the reason was it was listed as a "hate" site. How ridiculous!

I don't know if this is the correct category to post this in - if not, moderator please direct me to the right one. Very disturbing. I was at my sister's house and got on to the computer and tried to get on to post about some Oscar nonsense that was going on on the TV regarding Sean Penn. Typed in Free Republic and a window came up from Computer Associates that listed Free Republic as a "hate" site. I guess my sister has a CA program on her machine. Even my sister was perplexed at that designation! I have...

Sanjay Kumar, 44, had faced up to 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty in April to obstruction of justice and securities fraud charges at the company, which since has become known as CA Inc. Prosecutor Eric Komitee said Kumar deserved severe punishment as the architect of an elaborate coverup that was "the most brazen in the modern era of corporate crime." "I know that I was wrong and there was no excuse for my conduct," Kumar, who is also a co-owner of the New York Islanders hockey team, told the judge at his sentencing.

Business software giant CA is to cull 1,700 of its workforce. News of the massive restructure came as the firm released its Q1 2007 results and reported a 64 per cent drop in net income compared to the same period in 2006. About half the cull will take place in North America, with the rest drawn from global operations. In all, 10.5 per cent of CA staffers are for the chop. Execs hope the plan, which is to be completed in 2008, will save the firm $200m annually. The redundancies themselves will cost the firm $200m. Revenues were actually up...

Jessica Simpson snubs Bush Wed Mar 15, 2006 10:50 PM ET By Steve Gorman LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Concerned about politicizing her favorite charity, singer-actress Jessica Simpson on Wednesday turned down a invitation to meet with U.S. President George W. Bush, a snub that left Republicans dismayed. The apparent final word that Simpson would be a no-show at a major Republican fund-raiser with Bush and congressional leaders on Thursday night came after a day of conflicting reports from her camp and organizers of the event. The blond star of the film "The Dukes of Hazzard" still plans to visit Washington...

NEW YORK - Bonuses at Wall Street firms climbed to a projected record of $21.5 billion last year as revenue grew, according to the New York state comptroller's office. Comptroller Alan Hevesi said Wednesday that 2005's bonus tally was $2 billion more than the old record, which was set in 2000. In 2004, Wall Street bonuses came to an estimated $18.6 billion. Last year's average bonus was pegged at $125,500, also a record, Hevesi said. Revenue at Wall Street firms rose 44.5 percent through the first three quarters of 2005, climbing to the highest level since 2000, the year when...

Former Worldcom Chief Executive Bernard Ebbers was handed a 25-year prison term for directing the biggest accounting fraud in corporate history, leaving thousands of investors empty-handed. Ebbers, who built a small Mississippi-based long distance company into a telecommunications powerhouse, was found guilty on March 15 on all charges — one count of conspiracy, one count of securities fraud and seven counts of false regulatory filings. But he could also be a charming and folksy CEO, who preferred cowboy boots to suits, opened shareholder meetings with a prayer, ate lunch in the cafeteria and ran a company that had become a...

A Schumer aide said the senator will give all six of the crooks' contributions to charity. Campaign aides to Schumer's Republican opponent, upstate Assemblyman Howard Mills, noted that the latest disclosure comes after Schumer agreed to return nearly $20,000 to the federal government after billing taxpayers for 35 trips that were political in nature. "The more you know about Chuck Schumer, the more questions you have about how he conducts his affairs," said Mills campaign spokeswoman Caroline Quartararo.

Several senior executives of Computer Associates conspired to obstruct a continuing federal investigation into the company's accounting practices, a former senior vice president said yesterday in Federal District Court in Brooklyn. In a subdued 30-minute hearing before Judge I. Leo Glasser, the executive, Lloyd Silverstein, admitted lying to prosecutors and lawyers from the Securities and Exchange Commission in September 2002 about whether the company had booked revenue from unsigned contracts. Mr. Silverstein also said he had lied to lawyers at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, a firm that Computer Associates hired in 2002 to investigate its accounting practices and report...
