[Author's Note: This story originally published 25 years ago about the Vince Foster "suicide." I thought it might be appropriate to republish now with the current cocaine scandal in the White House. Sri Lanka: Jihad murderer Mohamed Azzam Mohamed blew himself up in busy Easter Sunday hotel buffet line “‘It was 8:30 am and it was busy. It was families,’ the manager told AFP. ‘He came up to the top of the queue and set off the blast,’ he added.” He wanted to maximize the carnage; his god promised Paradise for those who “kill and are killed” for him (Qur’an 9:111), so he might have thought he could increase the reward he would receive by killing as many people as possible. “Eight blasts at churches, hotels across Sri Lanka kill at least...

TOKYO (Reuters) - A European-Japanese spacecraft set off on a treacherous seven-year journey to Mercury to probe the solar system’s smallest and least-explored planet. The BepiColombo mission, only the third ever to visit Mercury, blasted off from Europe’s spaceport in French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5 rocket at 10:45 p.m. local time on Friday (0145 GMT on Saturday), according to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). “Launching BepiColombo is a huge milestone for ESA (the European Space Agency) and JAXA, and there will be many great successes to come,” ESA Director General Jan Woerner said in a statement. “Beyond completing...

Imagine for a moment the unlikely scenario of Pope Francis and Lt. Columbo standing in the Vatican's parking lot and sharing in the kind of wheel-kicking car-talk that goes on between men the world over.

According to Dick Van Dyke, "Somebody's looking after me!" And ain't that the truth, after he escaped without a scratch Monday while his car burned up on the side of the 101 Freeway. "Van Dyke's melted car ... He's fine thank God!!," his wife, Arlene, tweeted after the incident, including a link to a short Vine video of the actor's fried ride. Though according to the California Highway Patrol accident log it was two off-duty nurses who yanked the 87-year-old out of the four-door sedan, Van Dyke told a TMZ cameraman it was just an ordinary citizen, and "a fireman...

Video 1 (runs 9:29): Steven Spielberg reflects on his early work in television as a freelance director for such shows as Night Gallery, Marcus Welby, M.D., Columbo, and for his first made for TV movie Duel starring Dennis Weaver. How Long Before the Left Realizes That With Sarah Palin they are dealing with Lt. Columbo? How many times have we seen that rumbled detective allow his prey think he is a slow witted little guy, lost in a maze they have created for him, so helpless they think he can't get out on his own And how many times has Lt. Columbo gotten his adversary, and shown in the end how he has led them down a path of his choosing so they would do for him what he wishes and convict themselves... I figure November 2012.....

Russia says Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will personally head the investigation into an aeroplane crash that killed Poland's president. A total of 96 people were on board the plane that crashed near the western Russian city of Smolensk, all of whom are believed to be dead. Polish president Lech Kaczynski was on board the Russian-built Tupolev 154 jet when it went down in heavy fog near a military airport. Russian authorities have already said they suspect pilot error in the crash, near Smolensk, in Western Russia. There are reports the jet made several attempted landings before the crash. Also on...

As mismatches go, "Columbo" vs. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger may not rank with David vs. Goliath, but California's environmental and energy policy would be dramatically altered if the little guy wins this fight. "Columbo" is the nickname of freshman Assemblyman Dan Logue, R-Linda, who is battling to suspend a landmark greenhouse gas emissions law pushed by Democrats and touted as part of Schwarzenegger's environmental legacy. Never count Logue out, no matter the odds, warns Assemblyman Mike Villines, a Clovis Republican who pinned the "Columbo" nickname on his zealous but mild-mannered colleague. "Like 'Columbo,' he'll always get you by the end of...

Judge Puts 'Columbo' Star Falk in Conservatorship Tuesday, June 02, 2009 LOS ANGELES — A judge placed former "Columbo" star Peter Falk in a conservatorship Monday to ensure his daughter could occasionally visit the ailing 81-year-old actor. Falk's wife of more than 30 years, Shera, will remain in control of his personal care and affairs. Falk has advanced dementia, likely from Alzheimer's disease, one of his doctors testified Monday. Catherine Falk petitioned in December to take over her father's affairs despite a sometimes contentious relationship with Falk and his wife. By court order, she will be allowed a 30-minute visit...

I used to say that Lt. Columbo was an ageless character. Well, age may have just caught up with one of television's most durable, delightful and beloved detectives. Universal Television, which has been in the "Columbo" business since 1968, has a script in hand titled "Columbo's Last Case." First announced as "Hear No Evil," the story would mark the 70th and final time Peter Falk plays the role that has brought him four Emmy Awards and an international following. Falk likes the script and is eager to don Columbo's wrinkled raincoat one more time. If the cameras started rolling fairly...

President Bush ran for office as a "compassionate conservative." And he continues to nurture his conservative base — even issuing his first veto this week against embryonic stem cell research. But lately his foreign policy has come under fire from some conservatives — including the father of modern conservatism. CBS Evening News Saturday anchor Thalia Assuras sat down for an exclusive interview with William F. Buckley about his disagreements with President Bush. William F. Buckley's Stamford, Conn., home is a tranquil place that allows Buckley to think and write, and spend time with his canine companion, Sebastian. "He's practically always...

WASHINGTON - President Bush is to order as many as 6,000 National Guard troops to increase enforcement at the Mexican border, part of a $1.9 billion drive to tighten security and win conservative backing in Congress for a broad election-year overhaul of the nation's tattered immigration laws. "We do not yet have full control of the border and I am determined to change that," Bush is expected to say in remarks prepared for a prime-time speech from the Oval Office. The speech will come as the Senate begins work on legislation to strengthen border security, authorize new guest worker programs...
