On Wednesday, Fox News Channel’s Bill Hemmer interviewed Austan Goolsbee, the chief economist for the White House Recovery Board, on the one-year anniversary of the stimulus. Here is a simple fact check of Mr. Goolsbee's claims: Hemmer: "What does the White House predict a year from now?" Goolsbee: Let’s remember, you’re citing the claim that the unemployment rate wouldn’t go above 8 percent, but if you remember in that same projection they said that if we didn’t pass the stimulus it would only go to 9 percent, and it was above that before the stimulus even came into effect. What...

Charlie Sheen has been accused of a felony and could face three years in jail. So why is he being given a free pass by the press and Hollywood? One would think that a major TV star showing up at a courthouse in Aspen, facing domestic violence allegations, would merit a blitzkrieg of paparazzi and press. And yet x17, one of the leading celebrity gossip Web sites, which chronicles every Britney Spears-Starbucks entry and exit, and every step Jessica Biel takes on Robertson Blvd., didn’t even send a photographer when Charlie Sheen showed up in court earlier this week with...

WaPo's Howie Kurtz writes about increasing grumblings from the White House press corps over the lack of presidential news conferences in recent months: "It's a source of great frustration here," says Chip Reid, CBS's White House correspondent. "It's important for us to hold the president's feet to the fire." NBC White House reporter Chuck Todd calls the situation a "shame," saying the administration is trying to control the message rather than allowing Obama to be seen "unscripted." While the White House argues that there has been no shortage of appearances by the president on television and in print, some White...

After days of deliberation, CBS has elected not to air an ad from a gay dating site during next week's Super Bowl. A rep for the network tells Pop Tarts that ManCrunch.com's "Playing for the Same Team," an ad featuring two men kissing, failed to meet CBS' broadcasting standards. “CBS Standards and Practices has reviewed your proposed Super Bowl ad and concluded that the creative is not within the Network’s Broadcast Standards for Super Bowl Sunday,” the official rejection letter stated. “Moreover, our Sales Department has had difficulty verifying your organization’s credit status.” The commercial shows two men excitedly watching...

Looks like Obama is using the Superbowl as a lead in to repsonding to Critiques, yaking it up on CBS. Or maybe he watched Sarah at the Tea Party Convention ? I couldn't watch, I felt a Hillary "Response" coming on. Somehow he isn't News anymore. We will have to wait until Newsbusters compresses it to a 1 minute Lecture.

"CBS Evening News" anchor Katie Couric is profiled in the March issue of Harper's Bazaar, and she took some very fancy photos for the magazine. Here's an unexpected video interview from the photoshoot:

CBSNEWS anchorwoman and 60 MINUTES contributor Katie Couric faces a dramatic pay cut at the network, insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT. CBS boss Les Moonves is determined to save money and trim expenses -- from top to bottom -- at the former crown jewel of broadcasting. Couric, the highest paid TV news personality in history, commands over $14 million a year, plus bumps for non-EVENING NEWS appearances. But her salary is now in the direct line of fire, network insiders explain, and a populist backlash against Couric's cash is said to be forming inside the newsroom. "She makes enough to...

News fairly unbalanced. We report. You decipher. The National Organization for Women on Monday called on CBS to yank a pro-life Super Bowl ad featuring former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow, and it started a campaign to demand that authorities withdraw Tebow's Heisman Trophy and pull his National Championship ring. The ad, sponsored by Colorado-based Focus on the Family, highlights Pam Tebow's high-risk pregnancy and her decision to give birth to Tim despite a medical recommendation to abort the fetus. The women's rights group said Mrs. Tebow's decision, 23 years ago, "set in motion a cascade of events ending in this...

CBS's 'super' business plan favors Religious Rightby Kevin Hollinshead The Rocky Mountain Collegian last edited: 9:33 pm 01/31/2010 Super Bowl Sunday was once considered a holy day in this country, purely a celebration of football, funny commercials and obscenely huge piles of chicken wings. You certainly never let hot-button politics pervade the sanctity of the gridiron. CBS, however, is now directly involved with an unprecedented politicization of the game. The network recently decided to air an anti-abortion commercial from the evangelical political organization Focus on the Family during this Sunday’s broadcast. The ad will reportedly feature Florida Gators quarterback Tim...

Super Bowl network CBS rejected an ad Friday from ManCrunch.com, a gay dating Web site. "After reviewing the ad, which is entirely commercial in nature, our standards and practices department decided not to accept this particular spot," said CBS spokeswoman Shannon Jacobs. "We are always open to working with a client on alternative submissions." CBS said it turned down the ad partly for financial reasons, but ManCrunch believes that there's more to it than that. "It's straight-up discrimination," said Elissa Buchter, spokeswoman for the Toronto-based dating site. Jacobs of CBS declined to comment on the charge of discrimination. Buchter provided...

Poor CBS. They are caught between a rock and hard place this week. And all for making two very correct programming decisions for which they may end up paying dearly. First, executives in their Standards and Practices department accepted and ad from Focus on the Family celebrating Pam Tebow's decision in 1987 to give birth to her son Tim, despite the risk of losing her own life. She had contracted amoebic dysentery in the Philippines, while she was working as a missionary. She was treated with strong antibiotics, which doctors told her had caused fetal damage, and recommended that she...
