Drugs were in the room where two former Navy SEALs were found dead aboard the Maersk Alabama, a ship that was the focus of a 2009 hijacking dramatized in the movie "Captain Phillips," a company spokesman said Thursday. Police from the African island nation of Seychelles have given no cause of death for Mark Daniel Kennedy, 43, and Jeffrey Keith Reynolds, 44. The Americans were security contractors who were found dead Tuesday in a cabin on the ship while berthed in Port Victoria in the Indian Ocean. "We are saddened by the tragedy and our thoughts are with the family...

The recently released film “Captain Phillips” is getting good reviews and a respectable box office. It is a film I won't be viewing. My reasons? Tom Hanks is a talented actor (that's someone who can memorize at least one paragraph of dialog written by another). Unfortunately, he is also another Hollywood Obama worshiper, albeit a relatively quiet one, who, along with Spielberg and several others, grasp the financial rewards for positive portrayals of the United States military. Projects such as "Saving Private Ryan", "Band of Brothers" and now this new one. How sadly hypocritical that these Hollywood types continue...
  • Crew Members: 'Captain Phillips' is one big lie

'It’s made for Hollywood: the story of an average American family man, captain of a cargo ship in dangerous waters, his vessel overtaken by armed Somali pirates demanding ransom, saving his crew by allowing himself to be removed from the boat and taken hostage. All of this is the basis for “Captain Phillips,” starring Tom Hanks as the titular, real-life hero. The only problem, say some members of the real Capt. Phillips’ crew, is none of it is true. Capt. Richard Phillips, they say, is no hero, and the film is one big lie.'

The breathless Associated Press report describes Obama as the hero - and not just once, but twice over: WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama twice authorized the military to rescue a U.S. captain held by Somali pirates and whose life appeared to be at risk. Officials say Obama gave the OK on Friday and Saturday to rescue Capt. Richard Phillips from a lifeboat off the Somali coast. Officials say both times the Pentagon believed Phillips' life was at risk. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. Of course, anonymity gives political officials free-reign to lie...
  • The Story of a Successful Rescue (and the Obama Adminstration’s Attempt to Claim Credit)

After four days of floating at sea on a raft shared with four Somali gunmen, Richard Phillips took matters into his own hands for a second time. With the small inflatable lifeboat in which he was being held captive being towed by the American missile destroyer USS Bainbridge, and Navy Special Warfare (NSWC) snipers on the fantail in position to take their shots at his captors as soon as the command was given, the captive captain of the M.V. Maersk-Alabama took his second leap in three days into the shark-infested waters of the Indian Ocean. This diversion gave the Navy...

I just watched the news conference from the Navy right now. The US Navy had convinced the pirates to let the Bainbridge take the life boat in tow! They were using the enflatable vessel to ferry food and water to the prirates so they were used to using it at that point. They also convinced one of the pirates to board the Bainbridge and act as a go between in the negotiations. That is the one who lived. While towing the lifeboat, apparently two of the pirates we leaning head and shoulders out of the windows, and the thrid was...

Great news on Easter Sunday: U.S. Naval Forces have killed three pirates and captured one other in freeing American Captain Phillips who has been held hostage for five days! There are conflicting reports as to the details. The NBC News report above says Navy Seals freed Phillips in an assault against the lifeboat. I'm sure we will learn more as the day wears on. . . . . . (Watch Video)
