A public watchdog group has accused Rep. Eric Cantor, R-7th, of accepting major donations from the financial sector after questioning President Barack Obama's relationship to the financial industry. ...snip... Brad Dayspring, a spokesman for Cantor, said many people in the business community who previously supported Obama now think he either doesn't understand what it takes to get people back to work or is hostile to business.

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) is taking a pass on the House Tea Party Caucus. The second-ranking House Republican told POLITICO on Tuesday that he's not joining the group started by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) because he sees it as more of an organic, grass-roots movement rather than a Washington entity. Cantor praised Bachmann for providing “another avenue for people to have their voices heard" but said he thinks the tea party is better left outside Washington. “I met with several of groups that operated under that moniker in Virginia; they’re not all uniform,” Cantor said in his third-floor...

Here is video of GOP House Minority Leader John Boehner denying that there is a rift between himself and GOP Rep. and Minority Whip Eric Cantor. Reports have circulated based on unnamed sources that the two, and their teams, do not get along. But Boehner says that is not true. However, Boehner did say that he and Cantor are “very different people.” When asked what he meant by that, Boehner said he is “older” and has more “experience” than Cantor, while Cantor is “younger and aggressive.” But Boehner repeated multiple times that they get along well and work together very...

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor has asked the ethics committee to greenlight a national book tour this August for a new GOP manifesto he’s co-authoring with two younger members of Congress, according to sources familiar with the situation. This is classic Cantor: a hyperambitious move to publish and push ideas he thinks will help rebrand the GOP, on his terms — and not necessarily those of his boss, Minority Leader John Boehner. If this were an isolated incident, it would pass without a peep. But it’s not: Cantor is earning a reputation for pushing his ideas so hard and so...

Well, it is official. Eric Cantor and John Boehner — particularly Eric Cantor — have decided they don’t need or want conservatives and, more troubling, do not have any intention of trying to win at the polls by forcing Democrat hands on Obamacare. Our leadership is behaving badly. Last week and on Monday I mentioned Rep. Steve King’s effort to repeal Obamacare and start over. He’s filed a discharge petition. If he gets 218 signatures, Nancy Pelosi must hold a vote. At the time, I was hearing that Eric Cantor was desperate to undermine Steve King’s efforts and, sure enough,...

House Republicans are sticking to their ‘no earmarks’ pledge . In the 2011 homeland security spending bill, there is exactly one Republican earmark and seemingly in response, Democrat earmarks dropped dramatically as well. “‘Essentially, the vacuum that was created by virtually no Republican earmarks wasn't backfilled by more Democratic earmarks, and in fact, Democrats actually took less than they did last year,’ said Steve Ellis, vice president at Taxpayers for Common Sense, a watchdog group. ‘There is a fear of overstepping the earmarking bounds, and also a commitment to at least further whittling away at earmark levels.’” At the same...

The Republican Whip in the House Eric Cantor posted the proposals for spending cuts for the week on his YouCut web page. The public is encouraged to vote and the winning idea will be voted on the floor – for real. Over 1,000,000 votes were cast already. Every time you bring a YouCut item to the House floor you cast a vote for Washington to change and stop the ridiculous spending. Because you asked the “best of the seconds” – all of the previous weeks second place finishers are once again up for a vote. - Consolidate and Reduce Funding...

The three top members of the House GOP leadership called a top-ranking member's apology to BP "wrong." House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) condemned remarks Thursday by Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) in which he apologized to BP for the treatment the company has faced by the government. "The oil spill in the Gulf is this nation’s largest natural disaster and stopping the leak and cleaning up the region is our top priority. Congressman Barton’s statements this morning were wrong," the three said in a joint statement....

Video. Cantor's office just released this hit piece on Obama. Going out official later this morning. Although Kalamazoo Central's crack about taking responsibility is not mentioned, the entire theme is pointing fingers, all to the soundtrack of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd.

It's called YouCut. It allows anyone to vote on a project that they think Congress should cut. Republicans will suggest possible cuts each week and will try to bring the winning cut to the House floor each week for an up or down vote. 1 of 5 On the chopping block: Prohibiting taxpayer-subsidized union activities by prohibiting federal employees from being paid by the government for performing union functions. Currently some federal employees spend up to 100% of their workweek, paid by taxpayers, doing work for their union. Federal employees unions collect millions in revenue each year and spend significant...

Representive Eric Cantor, R/OH, has come up with an idea which has just gotten started, asking WE THE PEOPLE to vote what should be cut.

This is a rush transcript from "On the Record," May 12, 2010. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated. Video at above link. ~snip~ CANTOR: YouCut is a program that we unveiled today. It was really produced by the Economic Recovery Working Group in the House, a group of Republicans who really intend on trying to change the culture in Washington. You know, not only have we've seen just rampant pork barrel spending, but the whole process itself is bent towards spending money. And so what this program is, is an ability for people...

Heritage crowd grumbles angrily when Eric Cantor says Obama isn't "domestic enemy" Eric Cantor unleashed a harsh attack on Obama's national security policies in a speech sponsored by the right-wing Heritage Foundation today, and I've got some video of what may be the best moment: The crowd grumbling audibly in anger when Cantor rebuffed a questioner who suggested Obama is a "domestic enemy." The key moment comes just before the one-minute mark: The audience member claimed Obama had put us at greater risk, and asked Cantor: "What would he have to do differently to be defined as a domestic enemy?"...

President Obama should launch a campaign to “to expose Islamist terror attacks on fellow Muslims,” House Republican Whip Eric Cantor told a conservative audience during a national security policy speech Tuesday morning, “instead of apologizing to the Arab world.” “Every time the Taliban blows up innocent Muslim women and children in Pakistan or al-Qaida strikes in Iraq or in any other Arab country, we must broadcast to the world the faces of the victims and point out their killers,” Cantor said at Tuesday’s “Protect America Month” lecture series sponsored by the Heritage Foundation. “In the battle of ideas, we win...

A Philadelphia man who threatened a Congressman and his family in a YouTube video has been found incompetent to stand trial and ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment. Norman Leboon, 38, will be sent to a federal prison and mental health facility for four months, with the goal of treating him so he is capable of standing trial, Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert K. Reed said Tuesday. Leboon appears in the video attacking U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor (R., Va.), the Republican House whip. The incident received wide attention, coming as it did shortly after the Democratic-controlled Congress passed President Obama's controversial health...

O.J. Simpson was heard to say that he would look for the “real” killers of his deceased wife and her friend Ron Goldman after he was acquitted of their murders. Ironically, Mr. Simpson’s search was cut short when he landed in state prison in Nevada over a memorabilia dispute involving trophies of his illustrious football career. Giving new and unintended meaning to the phrase what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Maybe it was only me who saw a parallel between Mr. Simpson’s looking for the “real” killers and Democrats who after they passed and signed their new health care...

A Democratic National Committee donor was arrested on Monday for death threats that he reportedly made toward Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), but many journalists are still blaming the conservative "tea party" movement for allegedly fomenting political violence. Philadelphia Norman Leboon, 33, was charged for posting a YouTube video in which he threatened to kill Cantor and his family, just days after a bullet was fired through the window of Cantor’s Richmond campaign office by an unknown gunman."You receive my bullets in your office, remember they will be placed in your heads. You and your children are Lucifer's abominations," Leboon reportedly...

On Monday, March 29, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia announced that Norman Leboon was being charged with two counts of threatening to kill Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and his family. Comments left at the Queerty and Huffington Post websites in December 2008 and videos posted at YouTube as recently as this month, which evidence suggests are from Leboon, suggest that he identifies as gay and has a partner and two children.
